Sylvain's allegations are unfounded. The keys WERE waiting for him at Keycafe indeed - a paid service that many Airbnb hosts use in NY for guest keys pick-up while they are away. But the café's workers obviously made a mistake placing it in the wrong box and unfortunately gave Sylvain the wrong keys.
I was then bombarded right away with several international SMS from Sylvain complaining about this third-party mistake in an accusatory and disrespectful tone. He did not communicate through Airbnb site as per protocol and used very expensive international text messages while he knew I was out of the country. I kindly explained that as he knew I was away (made VERY clear in my listing and in prior communication, hence the cheaper listing price as pointed by him above), he’d have to verify with the manager regarding the keys as I could not do it from abroad. He did just that, and got the right keys a few minutes later, as confirmed by our messages, and the keys were at the cafe indeed, contrary to his statement above. It is unfair to blame a host for a third-party mistake and get so angry about it - any reasonable person would understand this is a mistake that can be solved by talking with the café’s manager.
As per not having a cleaning service between guests, this is a fact clearly stated in my listing and the reason for it being cheaper than other places - which many are looking for. Not sure why Sylvain states it in this review as if it was a surprise for him. If he wanted a place with cleaning service, he should have paid more for a listing that included that (?)
I’d say Sylvain is not an easy going guest and doesn’t know how to deal politely with unexpected adverse events. I would not recommend hosting him.
