O. M. G… can I give 6 stars?? I said I wanted to experience Ireland like a ‘local’, and this place, especially the hosts, completed the mission in spades. I wish we could’ve stayed longer.
I hesitated at first because it’s a new listing and had some comments about cleanliness, but we’re traveling on a budget and you can’t beat sleeping 7 people in a place with a fantastic kitchen and SPACE for the price of a hotel room. When I spoke to Karl about the booking and comments, I was instantly reassured by his kindness, hospitality, suggestions for our visit (whether we stayed there or not) and not-to-mention, the guy is hilarious.
The place is fantastic. Fresh, newly painted, simple, and spacious. Great location as a home-base for exploring this beautiful little town, plenty of cozy space for ourselves and the 3 guests who spontaneously joined (for no extra cost!) But mostly I can’t say enough about how accommodating these beck-and-call hosts were.
The first day my kids explored the ‘granny flat’ in the back that isn’t even part of the listing. When we asked if the kids could hang out in there, the guys advised us against using it as they’ve had some appalling reviews since they haven’t updated it like the main house yet. But the kids just wanted somewhere to hang out away from adults (which we encouraged;). When we told them we didn’t care, Karl & Shaun turned up to clean it and converted it into a ‘kid den’ for us. THEN they gave my eldest daughter their contact number in case she had any questions or requests, 24/7, for bedding, pizza places, things to bother their parents about, etc. The kids had a ball, and ended up sleeping warm and cozy in the granny flat for the whole stay!
And here’s the best part: all I did was ASK for suggestions about exploring Ennis, and they went above-and-beyond by taking us on a fairly-land tour of this little, ancient town and the Cliffs of Moher… it was unbelievable. So much more than I could have imagined.
Thank you so, Karl and Shaun, for havin’ the CRAIC (fun) with us. As Karl says, “you remember your journey by the people you meet.” We’ll be back, and I think I’m definitely converting to Irish☺
