loft / warehouse space in Echo Park, CA.
The space is a large, 2000 square foot adapted raw warehouse space with 12 foot ceilings. It recently went through a major renovation/make-over with improvements to what are now the main room living area, with two bedrooms, 1.5 bathrooms, a large kitchen/lounge area and a gated outside patio area. The space was used for years as a live/work space, and the main room was used this past decade to host hundreds of events, screenings, film and photo shoots--everything from punk to hip hop. Many music videos have been shot here including, recently, A$AP Ferg, and the space was host to early performances by the likes of Chelsea Wolfe back in 2012. Before it's incarnation as "The Mime" since 2010, it hosted primarily art gallery and small music events under the moniker "Silver Echo Gallery."
The space has been cleaned up and much improved and refined, but you'll still see and sense the vibe of the more raw underground music & art venue/creative space it has primarily been until recently. It will still host select events and be used for various film/photo and production projects, but for now is open to you to enjoy as a large, comfortable space to stay with a rich history in the heart of Echo Park, Los Angeles.
Guests have access to the full 2000 square foot warehouse/loft space. Main room (approximately 1500 square feet), 2 private bedrooms, 1.5 bathrooms, large kitchen/lounge area and small outdoor, gated patio. Please be aware that there is no parking provided, only street parking, and though often a spot can be found with ease, on a rare occasion you may have to park on an adjacent street and walking a block or two may be necessary. Usually that is not the case and it is possible to park directly by the building or just up the street we are on (though a steep one!). You get idea. Parking is not the forte, but the space itself should offset the offchance of any parking inconvenience. We'll provide more specific advice and detailed instructions upon booking.

We have a residence on site in a separate unit around the corner, however we're often away, splitting time between Echo Park and our air bnb up in Joshua Tree. We can be as absent as you like, you may check yourselves in and out, and of course we're always available to message and give you quick responses. Conversely, if you would prefer, whenever possible we would be happy to greet you and show you around. If that helps your arrival and makes you more comfortable, just say so and we'd be happy to schedule accordingly to greet you.

The space is in Echo Park, one of the recently up-and-coming neighborhoods of Los Angeles. Historically, it is in the heart of the old Edendale Corridor, home of the original silent movie production studios of Los Angeles in the early 1900's (see photos section). It is less than a mile from the eastern stretch of Sunset Blvd., which has a really nice mix of music venues, bars, restaurants and shops. The Echo and Echoplex music venues, bars (Semi-Tropic, El Prado, Gold Room, Sunset Beer, Short Stop, LIttle Joy, Red Lion and the infamous Cha Cha Lounge), and a variety of nice coffee shops and restaurants are just .3/4 - 1 1/2 miles away--a somewhat long walk, or a quick & easy Lyft or Uber. Downtown LA/Arts District, Eagle Rock, Glendale, Los Feliz, Highland Park and Dodger Stadium are just 10 minutes away, while Hollywood, Pasadena and Burbank are about 15-20. Silver Lake is directly over the hill, with its mix of nice shops and restaurants, and its popular reservoir walking trail, park and dog park.
PLEASE NOTE: We are on the corner of Clifford St. and Glendale Blvd, which is a very busy boulevard, and in the heart of an area amidst the essence of gentrification. One side of the street has 70 new almost million-dollar condo units in what is technically Silver Lake, and our side of the street has older buildings and lots which are also giving way to condo development and a new face. This isn't any problem or concern aside from our just wanting to emphasize that this space is about the unique, large and comfortable inside, and that the outside is just a busy urban scene quickly trying to enter 2017 from the mid 1900's. It's a little rough around the edges outside, but a nice, big quiet & cozy oasis inside. There's a market right next door which is nice and handy, but also a recycling drop-off lot which is less than appealing. Clifford St. Elementary School is behind us, new developments are going up beside us, and older & original Echo Park houses are all over the rolling hills that surround us (there's actually a really neat network of huge stairways that connect the various streets of the rolling hills in the area, worth checking out if you'd like a long walk connecting to the authentic area--there's even an app with a guided tour available). Anyhow, it's a very large and neat space inside, but if pulling up to a quiet & clean, more suburban exterior is something you're looking for or that is important to you, this probably is not the right place for you.
PLEASE ALSO NOTE: (copied from/included in guest access section):
Please be aware that there is no parking provided, only street parking, and though often a spot can be found with ease, on a rare occasion you may have to park on an adjacent street and walking a block or two may be necessary. Usually that is not the case and it is possible to park directly by the building or just up the street we are on (though a steep one!). You get idea. Parking and the exterior are not the place's strong suits, but the space itself should offset the offchance of any parking inconvenience. We'll provide a specific map and detailed instructions upon booking. There is almost always parking on our street, even if a bit up the hill, and otherwise Duane Street, adjacent, is a trusty alternative.
Thank you much in advance for reading through this:)
Please be respectful of our neighbors. Though it is a 2000 square foot space with high ceilings and can seem like its own isolated sanctuary, walls are shared as it is a residential building as well with smaller apartments on the 2nd level. The soundbars attached to each projector can go to high volumes, but please be considerate and use moderate volume, especially as it gets after 10pm. Likewise, the piano is available to play, but please as well use common sense as courtesy to the neighboring units as well. We'd suggest limited playing to 30 minute segments, and no piano after 10pm weekdays, 11pm for Fridays & Saturdays. The PA sound system is set up at the back of the room for our live/show events. We kindly ask you please leave it unused unless specific arrangements have been made with us in advance.
Having a few friends over to enjoy the space is fine, but any gatherings/parties of more than 10 people are not permitted without prior & specific approval, which will be contingent upon which day and other factors. Please check with us if you have any party plans or if a spontaneous one begins to unfold.
Our space has been and will continue to host live music events, galleries, comedy, small parties, screenings, film & photo shoots--please check with us if you are interested in booking for any of these. Our listed rates assume typical air bnb stays only. Any of the more formal business or creative uses, please inquire with us to make separate arrangements.
Hope you enjoy the space, and thanks again for your time and consideration.
