Mildred’s Lane is an art project site and home, deep in the woods with open fields situated on 95 acres surrounded by views, meadows, ponds, and streams; perfect for group retreats or a romantic weekend getaway out of the city. The Main House has rooms with several rustic cabins and outbuildings on the property, only 1.5 miles from historic Narrowsburg, NY, on the Delaware River; enjoy water sporting, exploring galleries, fine restaurants, art and antiques and the famous One Grand Books store.
This replica of Henry David Thoreau's House at Walden Pond is part of an ongoing art project titled, Mildred's Lane renovating Walden, originally set at the Tuft's University Art Center in Boston, MA. There is an artist's replica of Thoreau's desk, a library of books on the history of the Transcendentalists of the 19th-century, artwork by contemporary artists on the subject of Thoreau.
You will have access to the entire site, scattered with dozens of ongoing art projects about living in this historic landscape. The interiors are aesthetic and conceptual tableaus as well as comfortable spaces to lounge in. There are tours of the artists' projects on-site available seasonally by request. Thoreau House is near the edge of the woods and a pond on a meadow. Facilities are at the Main Barn House. It has a heater and electricity. A host is on-site to assist with any needs and will provide you with colorful stories about the site. You will be able to explore all the artist projects there, as well as use the house as your personal lodge.
