Located in Palisades Park Country Club, this handsome 3 bedroom, 1.5 bathroom cottage has a charming vintage feel and a million dollar view. It was built in 1908 and has had minimal changes made - adding to the sense of being far away from the rest of the world. Perched right on the lake shore, most rooms have stunning views of Lake Michigan, but the screened in front porch that spans the entire length of the cottage really highlights it's beauty. The park is family oriented.
Nestled right on the shore, this cottage has an incomparable view of the lake and amazing sunsets since it was built much closer to the water than houses are now built. The screened in front porch that spans the entire length of the cottage really highlights the beauty of Lake Michigan and has several different sitting areas; including a vintage 1930's glider couch. The living room has a large built-in sofa and couch plus a good-sized table and chairs that are great to play games on at night or during a rainy day.
The kitchen has a ceiling fan to keep it cool when cooking, a stove with double oven, a microwave, and a view of the front porch and lake. There is no dishwasher, but with a large double sink we've always enjoyed divvying up dish duty for some good post-dinner banter. The dining porch is next to the kitchen and also screened in so you can humming bird watch in the day and listen to crickets by night. It can accommodate fourteen and more can dine in the living room or front porch if needed.
There are two bedrooms that sleep four each, master bedroom with a double bed and small adjoining half bath, plus a fold-out couch in the living room and a roll-away bed. Large couches can also provide sleeping for an additional three people, sleeping a total of sixteen if folks are not picky. All have screened in windows and doors that can be opened so you can listen to the waves and let them lull you to sleep.
There is no air conditioning, but the large screened in porches provide ample breeze, and we also provide numerous fans for hot days.
The cottage is well-suited for those looking to escape and enjoy the lake. There are tons of outside activities; a soda bar just down the walkway for Sherman's ice cream and snacks (and wifi if you must); and South Haven with its charming stores, farmer's market, and restaurants is less than 10 minutes away. As noted, however, the cottage has had minimal updates as we seek to retain its rustic and original charm. If you are looking for updated fixtures, dishwashers, big tvs, or video games - best look elsewhere. But if you are looking to disconnect from the rest of the world with unparalleled views of the lake--a place to go to the beach and swim every day; a place to enjoy your friends and family, a glass of wine with the sunset, beach fires, board games, and nature trails--this is the place for you!
The entire cottage and the park's facilities, including tennis courts, beaches, and the soda bar.
