We first came to the Costa Maya over 30 years ago. We stayed at a tent hotel that was a few kilometers north of a tiny fishing village, Playa del Carmen. The owner of the tents told us, "once you get the sands of the Yucatan on your feet, you'll never get them off." For us, it has been true -- we have returned many, many times over the years and seen lots of changes.
Tulum stil has the feeling of the Yucatan that we found on our first travels. Gorgeous beaches, a laid-back and international feeling, a major Mayan site and others yet to be discovered, and very friendly people.
