Thank you for your your interest in The Lodge at Black Mountain! We are certain the magic of this place will create long lasting memories for yourself, family and friends. The property has the capacity to sleep twelve. However, we recognize not every traveler has the need for a large space. This brought forth the option for a partial rental so we can better serve a variety of guests. Your reservation would be for the use of the Main Lodge and the sleeping porch which has two twin beds. A full bathroom is located in the Main Lodge. Your reservation also includes the upper cabin which has a bath house and a king sized bed. There is the option to rent an additional cabin accommodating two more guests at $25 per person per night. Please inquire with the host if you are interested in an additional cabin. The kitchen is provisioned with staples such as basic spices, coffee filters and cleaning supplies. There is a gas stove, microwave, toaster oven, dishwasher, refrigerator and coffee maker for your use. The house phone has local service. You will need to use a phone card to make long distance calls. Cell phone reception is very patchy in the mountain valley. There are a couple spots in the meadow where calls can be made although texts can be sent and received more consistently. Ask Ayrne and she can point out those hot spots!
This historic property was originally a lucrative mining claim during the Gold Rush. The tailings from multiple mining claims can be found in the nearby hills. You might get lucky yourself but don't be tricked by the glittering Fool's Gold that laces the stream! In the early 1900s it became Primrose Farm, a dairy providing fresh milk to nearby Helena. Our family acquired the property in 1941 and we are now heading into our fourth generation as stewards of this remarkable piece of Montana. A gurgling mountain stream winds its way between the Lodge and cabins lulling you to sleep at night. During the day take in the panoramic view from the large screened porch. Or hike miles of spectacular trails right from the front door. Wildlife abounds in our mountain meadow and you will spot animals large and small--moose, deer, elk, coyotes, even bear--from both the porch and trail.
Black Mountain Lodge, the surrounding meadows and mountains are yours to enjoy. Please do not access the cabins not included in your reservation. If you are interested in reserving the space for a group larger than six guests, we do have a separate listing to help you with renting the entire property, www.airbnb.com/rooms/12017965. Your host would be happy to answer any questions. Do not climb in or around the barns, as they are not regularly maintained. Horses live on this property, please keep gates closed.

Garbage is stowed in the animal proof trash containers outside the kitchen across from stream. It is necessary for garbage to be double bagged and sealed well before placing in outdoor containers. Wildlife abounds at Black Mountain. If we have had recent bear or other critter traffic, Ayrne will give you a heads up.

There are horses pastured year-round in the meadow. They are a friendly bunch but please do not feed them anything. They are already well fed!

Montana in the summer can be DRY, DRY, DRY. Forest fires pose an extremely serious threat. Please help us prevent such an environmental disaster by following the guidelines below:
FIREPLACE, HEATING & GRILLING We will notify you whether conditions are wet enough to allow for a fire in the main lodge fireplace during your stay. If fires are permitted, please keep them small and in control. Large fires produce large embers, which come out of the chimney and can land on a nearby tree. Do not use the wood stoves in the sleeping cabins at any time as they are not currently maintained and present a fire hazard. Portable electric space heaters are stored in each of the sleeping cabins. Keep the heaters 3 feet away from any objects and do not leave them on and unattended. Mounted fire extinguishers are located in each cabin. In the event of an accidental fire, call 911 immediately. A gas grill is provided. Grilling may be done in the back yard across the stream from the Lodge. On account of the fire hazard, NO open outdoor fires of any kind are permitted. PARKING Please do not park vehicles in the front lawn or on the septic field. The location of the septic field is marked.
Horses live on this property. Please keep gates closed and utilize walk-through located next to gates whenever possible. The gates have been adjusted and fine tuned for the terrain. Please do not swing or hang on gates as this can cause permanent damage to their set posts and mechanisms.
