Guests will receive instructions about using a hide-a-key the day before Check In. We will mostly be out of town when our condo is on Airbnb, so we will not interact directly with guests. However, we should be available if any issues arise! Elizabeth: (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) and Sarah: (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)
Things to Know
Kitchen: There are cleaning supplies below the sink, as are extra garbage bags and paper bags (which we use for recycling). The disposal switch is to the left of the sink; the disposal can get finicky, so please do not put things like flower stems, bones, or organic matter that is very rigid or stringy. It is also more effective to dispose of things in small quantities, waiting for each quantity to clear before adding the next one. Above the refrigerator there are disposable plates, cups, and flatware, and above the cabinets there is a “Shindig bucket” (with plastic wine glasses inside) and a party platter which are both great for bringing food and drinks to the roof. There are also serving platters and bowls to the left of the dishwasher. We always drink tap water; there is a water feature on the freezer door, but the filter needs to be replaced. Coffee supplies are to the left of the microwave. Grilling tools are in the middle drawer to the left of the oven. The bottom drawer to the left of the oven has dish towels, aprons, cloth napkins, and placemats. The cabinet to the right of the oven has our frying pans and pots, and our cookie sheets and casserole dishes are in the cabinet to the left of the dishwasher.
Living area: There are tablecloths in the console below the window next to the peninsula. TV remotes are to the right of the TV. There is also a Bluetooth Speaker called HK Onyx Studio - open your Bluetooth settings to connect with the speaker. This speaker is portable and can be brought to the roof (*but never left outside!*). The middle window at the front of our condo is a door with a Juliet balcony. To open the door, lift the handle up, then turn the lock left, push the handle down, and open the door; to lock it you must lift the handle up, turn the lock to the right, and check to make sure it’s locked. Our bookshelves contain MANY books - please feel free to peruse and read something during your stay. There is a section of Chicago Guidebooks, too, if you are new to our awesome city. If you want to borrow a book beyond your time in our home, please let us know which book you have and mail it back to us when you are done reading it.
Dining area: Our dining room table has 2 leaves built into it. Lift 2 corners and then pull out a leaf (or both) if you need to seat more people at the table. Please do not put glasses (or anything wet) directly on the wooden table.
Hallway: You can access the guest bedroom, hallway full bath, water heater closet, washer/dryer, and master bedroom. If you plan you use the jacuzzi bath in the master bathroom, you will need to turn the water heater (in the hallway closet) up to the hottest setting about 20 minutes before your bath, and please turn it back to the setting between A and B after your bath (trust us; the water gets incredibly hot). There is a fire extinguisher in the water heater closet, extra folding chairs for the dining room table or to take to the roof, and some cleaning supplies (broom, mop, dustpan).
Guest bedroom: We will have some space in the closet for guests, and the closet has some boardgames and puzzles as well.
Hallway bathroom: Towels, extra toilet paper, and a hairdryer are in the basket below the sink.
Master bedroom: Please do not use the closet; there are hooks on the back of the door for hanging garments. There are marked drawers for guests to use, but please do not open/use other drawers. There is a sliding door from the master to the back deck, however there is a small piece of wood blocking it from opening just for extra security; lift the wood, unlock the door, and slide it open!
Master bathroom: There are 4 bath towels and 2 hand towels. The jucuzzi tub requires turning up the hot water heater about 20 minutes beforehand (see Hallway section) and there is a button in the tub to turn on the jets as well. There is a hairdryer under the left sink and extra toilet paper under the right sink. There is also a pharmacy box with Tylenol, Advil, Benedryl, and band-aids in the bottom shelf to the right of the vanity.
Back Deck: There is a small Weber grill and an old butcher block island on the back deck. The grill must remain on the back deck and cannot be moved to the roof deck (fire hazard). There is a brush for cleaning the grill inside the lid; move this to a side shelf while grilling. Please rub olive oil on a paper towel onto the grill right before lighting it to ensure that grilled items do not stick. Before lighting the grill, twist the propane tank nozzle to the left to open the flow of gas. Use the instructions on the grill to light it. Be sure to turn off the propane at the end of grilling.
Roof Deck: Use the spiral staircase to access our roof deck. There is a plastic bench with storage, which contains the seating cushions, throw pillows, a blanket, and the hammock. If you use the hammock, we recommend attaching the hammock ropes to the hooks at either end of the hammock stand and then wrapping one rope end an additional time around the stand to tighten the slack and keep the hammock more firmly suspended. We recognize that our roof deck needs some TLC - we plan to rebuild it next year. The previous owners left the roof deck wood unsealed for 13 years :( Please do not sit on or heavily lean on the railings; we reinforced a few of the spindles, but want everyone to be safe! You will notice a raised garden bed on the roof; we sadly are not gardening this year because we are traveling so much.
What to do?!?!
Please check out our very own Neighborhood Map for our local favorites. We also recommend (URL HIDDEN) for local events. There are street festivals every weekend of the summer, which are super fun. You can also use a Divvy bike or the Fullerton or Armitage buses to get to the beach (among other destinations). If you have a specific hope in mind (example: Your group wants sushi recommendations) please message me, preferably in advance of your visit.
Nearby grocery stores: Mariano’s and Fresh Thyme
Note: Chicago charges 7 cents for grocery bags. We have a canvas bag filled with reusable grocery bags under the kitchen sink. Please feel free to borrow them!
Very close liquor store: Before You Go
Respecting our neighbors:
Please be mindful of everyone’s noise levels, especially after 10pm. Our 1st floor neighbor has a 4-year-old and one of our 2nd floor neighbors is a very light sleeper. Please be mindful not to jump around or drop things, as the neighbors below can hear these sounds loudly.
Before you leave:
Check Out time is 10am if another guest will arrive the same day. If no guest arrives the day you leave, Check Out time is more flexible (we will work out a time)
Please put all used dishwasher-safe dishes into the dishwasher and run it on “Normal.” Dishwasher detergent is under the sink.
Please strip used beds and sleeping spaces and place used linens (sheets, towels, napkins, tablecloths, etc.) in the hallway bath shower (living space and guest bedroom linens) and the master bathtub (master bed and bath linens).
Accessible spaces are described above.
Parking is easy on our street, which is not permitted nor pay-to-park. We never have trouble finding a parking spot near the front door of our building!

We will be traveling out of town, but accessible my phone/text/Airbnb app!
Note about our address: There has been construction around Fullerton and Damen for quite some time. It is best to avoid that intersection when possible, as it can lead to delays and general frustration. Use Damen & Webster or Elston & Webster as easier ways to get to Lister Ave.

Check in will either happen with us or a neighbor in our building. Guests will have a key to our backdoor only and will use the external staircase to access our 3rd floor walk up.
Please note that NO parties are allowed. We have a 10pm quiet time to respect our neighbors, and that timeframe must be observed.
I love to travel and enjoy good food and wine. I have a doctorate in Education and my wife is a medical doctor (psychiatry). We both love dogs, but my wife is allergic to cats. We are both easy going, clean, and low maintenance.
