Newly renovated double room in delightful old Cape home circa 1880 with own entrance and off-street parking. The house has a thatched roof, traditional reed ceilings and wooden floors. It is adjacent to Millstone Pottery and Gallery where hosts Paul and Nina have been making wood-fired pots for 20 years. Located in well-preserved 19th century Cape village.

The room is light and airy with an en-suite, private bathroom. It has a Victorian-style double bed with crisp, percale cotton bedding and fluffy white towels. The bathroom has a handmade wood-fired washbasin and tile panel from the hosts' pottery studio, as well as their unique drinking vessels. Tea and coffee facilities are provided.

Dostupno gostima

Guests have access to off-street parking close to their room. They are welcome to interact with the host potters Paul de Jongh and Nina Shand in their pottery studio next door. Paul and Nina have been living in McGregor for 20 years, so have a wealth of knowledge about the area to share. A breakfast basket is provided on request for guests to eat on their outdoor stoep or in their room. No kitchen facilities are available to guests.

Interakcija s gostima

In line with our philosophy that life and work should not be artificially separated, we relocated to McGregor and eventually found a property that affords us the privilege of working and living in the same place. We prefer to sell our work directly to our customers, thereby strengthening the link between the maker and the user. All too often, people buy things with no regard to who made them or where they came from, thereby alienating them from the creative process. Selling direct also means we can keep the price of our handcrafted pots more affordable.

We are happy to demonstrate our craft and our working pottery is open to view. We are also open 7 days a week. Visitors are welcome to browse and enjoy the environment. Wood-firing workshops are given, using the four wood-fired kilns, to groups wanting to experience this ancient and time-honoured process.

Ostale napomene

We have a swimming pool which guests are welcome to use in the summer months. It is an open pool and so the room is not suitable for small children. There is an abundance of mosquitoes in the summer months. Also note that the room is inside our house and not sound proof!

Perfect place to stay for a city break... all that you need in a room, and good linen! Quiet and picturesque neighbourhood. Nina and Paul are friendly and interesting hosts, and their dog Dobby is a delight. I highly recommend!

Peter (in town to cover the Wacky Wine Weekend for Cape Wine Lovers' Society) stayed at Millstone Pottery on a gravel side street barely 200m from the main street. Paul and Nina were welcoming and accommodating. The simple room, with double bed and en-suite bathroom, was quiet, comfortable and all I needed. Breakfast was in their kitchen – a mug of tea (home-made pottery of course) and muesli – and quite adequate for the tasting ahead. I didn’t get to see much of their pottery activities that seemed quite extensive from the pieces I saw on the property. The adjacent workshop was full of interesting artefacts too. I shall certainly stay at Millstone Pottery when I visit Robertson next time. Full review: (URL HIDDEN)
