Disclaimer: we originally had booked another flat from Abe. Some issues arose whereby we could not stay in that place any longer. Contacted by both AirBnB and Abe, I was assisted in the booking of this flat. It was very last minute, but nonetheless a smooth process.
The place is located very conveniently, close to Yonge Street and at walking distance from the subway.
Abe was very flexible and left us the key available for pick up. He never got to see him but he was kind and gave us some suggestions in terms of transportation.
Walking from the elevator to the front door was a bit of an apnea challenge, since a very unpleasant smell permeated the floor. Luckily this issue was limited to the hall: the apartment had no smell and was very clean. Not impeccable in terms of finishing touch (poor painting job, dislocated plug sockets), but that is the last thing I am worried about when I travel. The bed was comfy, appliances worked and bathroom was practical.
Everything we needed was available. Abe was very kind and brought us a hair drier as well as a compatible phone charger (We forgot ours and we come from Europe. Pro tip: there is a cheap electronic shop nearby. We bought a dual USB charger that worked fine for our whole Canada trip, for about 2 weeks). There is a laundry room on the second floor which is very clean and equipped with proper washing machines and driers; for some reasons, though, it is accessible only in the morning (from 8 to 12 if I recollect correctly), which was a bit inconvenient.
The view from the flat is stunning, being at the 18th floor. For the same reason, though, the windows cannot be opened completely so we could not get a quick air recirculation as we are used too. AC was available, it worked very quickly; a bit noisy maybe.
The main problem, I am afraid, was the presence or roaches, mainly in the kitchen and in the bathroom. To be fair, though, management (unasked by us) swept the whole floor for roaches, since they had been notified by other residents on the floor that there was something wrong and they were investigating. They went through every flat on the floor and could not find “the nest” to be in our place. Which is good, because it means the place was “clean” and was settled by roaches from the outside. But still... we had to deal with the roaches.
Abe was very sympathetic and promised to investigate further.
