Situated near the base of the Catalina Mountains - amidst the Sonoran Desert - this welcoming Casita (Spanish for "small house") is located in the Historic Indian Ridge District, a charming and welcoming neighborhood. It is a quiet area only four miles from Sabino Canyon Recreational Area, and close to great restaurants, shopping and nature-filled trails.
Casa Catalina's nickname is "La Casita", which means the "small house" in Spanish. This solar powered guesthouse is well equipped and reflects our love of the Sonoran Desert and the rich cultural history of the southwest.
The Casita features a kitchen, an open living area with a beautiful view of the Catalina Mountains, a full bathroom, a bedroom furnished with a king size bed and a walk in closest with a bonus closet across the hall. The Casita only shares one wall with the main home (in the living room), which happens to be fired adobe brick.
The Casita provides an abundance of privacy. The backyard has a natural brick wall and two beautiful blue wooden gates. The back porch also includes an enclosed outdoor seating area favored by guests with pets. The front porch area is hugged by a privacy fence made of Ocotillo. Beyond that lives a mini forest of native cacti, trees and bushes. Hawks, Hummingbirds, Gamble Quail and the occasional Roadrunner share this space with Lizards, Ground Squirrels and Sonoran Cottontails. With a bit of luck you may even have a chance to view the more elusive Coyotes, Bobcats and Javelina that inhabit our neighborhood.
You will be provided with an on-site covered parking spot that will remain reserved for you during your entire stay. Only 10 feet away, you'll find the entrance to Casa Catalina - marked by an adobe blue gate that will take you to the backyard.
A natural driveway lined with various cacti and homes of numerous ground squirrels leads to the front of the property. We therefore ask our guests to only use the private driveway leading to the backyard to help ensure we maintain the safety of these critters and cacti. To the right of the driveway is a pathway along the mini desert forest that also leads up to the front of the property.
Our beautiful desert plants may require a watering session(s) during your stay. We value water conservation! Therefore, we avoid watering as the temperatures increase during the day. If watering is needed, this will occur either in the early morning or early evening (based on which option is most convenient for you).

I grew up in a home that welcomed family, friends and strangers alike. Guests stayed anywhere from a night to several months. From a young age I loved getting to know people from around the globe and appreciated the rich experiences that our guests brought to our home. I was also fortunate enough to have traveled a great deal in my younger years. I have been to all fifty states and eleven provinces in Canada. As an adult I have loved traveling extensively in Europe and have had the pleasure of living in Germany and France. I may not have the opportunity now to travel as much as I used to but opening our home up through Airbnb has allowed us get to know people from all around the U.S. We hope that we will have visitors from overseas in the future as well. Airbnb is one of the best ways to expand your horizons and meet people from far and wide without leaving your home.
