This is a guest house studio apartment walking distance to the Texas Medical Center and hospitals. The building was built in 1940 and was renovated about 3 years ago, though we have retained the loft-like feel.
2nd floor studio apartment with a full kitchen (full size range and fridge), full bath, and central AC/heating controlled with a Nest thermostat. Kitchen is equipped with a full gas range and oven, a full size fridge, toaster, blender, electric burner, microwave and coffee machine. If you think of anything that is missing, we will definitely try and supply the kitchen with it ASAP.
The unit is furnished with a queen sized bed and a double fold-down couch; two twin-size air mattresses can be provided on-request.
There is a 60" TV with Chromecast and Roku, and high-speed internet with a dedicated amplifier.
There is evening and weekend street parking; if you need to leave a car on-site during the day there is a parking lot available 3 blocks away, though some folks have used the visitor parking for the building across the street. There is a driveway you can use for brief daytime parking (e.g. to unload luggage), but since we and the nanny also park there and are in and out throughout the day, it's not really a viable option for full-day parking.
The building was built in 1940 and retains that feel though we did substantial renovations about 2 years ago. We have the apartment professionally cleaned after every guest departs.
The neighborhood is beautiful and in walking distance to Rice Village with all its shops and restaurants, as well as walking distance to the Texas Medical Center, Baylor College of Medicine, and Rice University. If you want to stretch your legs a bit, we are 1.5 miles from Hermann Park with all its attractions, including the Houston Zoo. There is a nice little playground 2 blocks away, and some very nice biking/running trails around Rice University and the Braes Bayou.
We're a few minutes drive from downtown Houston, and a 45 minute drive from Galveston and its beautiful beaches. If you want to stretch your wheels a bit, we're 350 miles from New Orleans.
We are 1-3 blocks from numerous bus lines and 3 blocks from the light rail which can take you to the Museum District, Reliant Stadium, etc.
We will consider pets on a case-by-case basis. Please contact us before making a reservation if you plan to bring a pet.
No smoking on or around the premise
There are young children and a small dog living in the main house - make sure all gates and doors are closed when coming and going.
For those guests with children, feel free to let your kids use the swing set and dome climber in the backyard, but please only under your immediate supervision!
