Visit us on the stunning Otago Peninsula at this beautifully restored 160 year old cottage. We are only 30 mins drive from Dunedin city and 50 mins from the airport. Self cater in a charming, totally unique early settlers dwelling that enjoys a modern bathroom, comfortable beds & lovely private gardens. The cottage is the perfect location just minutes from the various penguin, albatross & wildlife colonies, famous Larnach Castle & all other activities & sights on the Peninsula.
This property is unique due to its age and history and the fact it was one of the first cottages built in one of the first areas in NZ to be settled. The cottage is quaint and unspoilt, retaining its original features, old timbers, beautiful wooden crooked floors and antique fittings so that you get the feel of living as it used to be. Yet it has modern conveniences for guests. Downstairs has a cosy small lounge/kitchen room with basic cooking facilities, TV, enclosed back porch, washing machine, large fridge/freezer, good size queen bedroom and a generous bathroom with shower, toilet and basin. The two small attic bedrooms are accessed by a newly fitted attic 'loft' stair/ladder. This can be left down or folded up as needed, note this is fairly narrow and steep and so may not suit some guests. The garden is to the front, sunny and is enclosed and safe for children with sitting areas with chairs and an umbrella in the sunshine. Lots vegetables and flowers, guests can help themselves to herbs. This will be a memorable experience. A coastal rural location near Portobello village with its pub, restaurant, shop & petrol.
The cottage is yours to enjoy, along with the garden in front, and feel free to say hello to the hens or birds on the property too! Parking is on the grass in front of the cottage roadside hedge. Space for more cars on other grass areas. On booking you will be provided with door key and access arrangements to let yourself into the cottage should the owner be unable to meet you on arrival. Arrival times are early from 3pm but may be even earlier by arrangement. Departure is 9-9.30am to ensure cleaning can be done, but please ask about a later checkout - which is usually possible.

If you need help or advice we are happy to assist. We can be contacted most easily via text, phone or email (if not at home next door) as we workaround the area and in Dunedin. Your privacy is respected. Local information on all main attractions is provided in the cottage for your use, along with bus timetables, various maps, books on local plants and wildlife and details of restaurants and cafes.
You are free to enjoy as much privacy as you choose or to make arrangements for our help to show you around or even select a breakfast option. Water is safe to drink. Some home seasonal grown vegetables and eggs may be available. There a few games and books in the cottage.
Check in and out times can often be flexible, please ask. Please just treat the old cottage with care, and leave it clean and tidy, used linen in the wash basket. Rubbish bins are provided, recycling containers are around the side of the cottage. Keep garden gates closed to stop rabbits eating the tasty vegetables!
We are a couple who love to share their fabulous property with others. We are fortunate enough to live in one of the clearest and cleanest spots in the world.
We both like to garden and potter about the property. Robin is a tour guide at Larnach Castle, a volunteer announcer on local radio and loves to tinker about in his shed at home. Jane is a certified health coach and has worked in community based health for many years.
Our adult daughters live in the UK and we get back there when we can. Recently we owned and ran a Bed and Breakfast establishment in the Isle of Skye, Scotland. You'll find a snap of Robin in his 'pinny' after cooking up yet another set of brekkies from our superb seven course breakfast menu.
We both look forward to meeting our guests and are on hand to help make your stay as memorable as it can be.
