A large, stately 1928 home called Holly Hill was purchased in May 2015 and renovated and furnished solely from donations and volunteers. We are a nonprofit called Jason's Getaway and provide an affordable, year round retreat for families, specializing in families who have children with special needs. We cater to families with a variety of toys, puzzles, and games. We offer DIRECTV and WIFI. We have 5 acres of spacious lawns and woods with a wrap around porch with seating and a hammock swing.
An adult and bunk room with connecting bathroom is downstairs. Upstairs are 3 additional bedrooms with a shared bathroom. We have a couple and their son who serve as caretakers who live in the 6th bedroom marked private. The common areas include a playroom/den, game room, dining room, kitchen, and wrap around porch. We have a wheelchair ramp, but the bathroom downstairs is not handicapped accessible.
You have access to both bathrooms.

Usually I am available by phone or text if the guests have questions. We have a notebook of information and maps of the area on the adult bedroom's bedside tables. Also in the dining room hutch there are maps of the area to rip off the pad and to take with you when exploring and lots of pamphlets.
It's $75/night for a family up to four (using 1 or 2 bedrooms.) However, for larger groups or families wanting to utilize the whole house it's $8/additional person. We are on Highway 70 directly across from an Italian restaurant called Roma's. We do sit up on a hill away from the road but due to trucks with loud mufflers and motorcycles it can occasionally be noisy when sitting on the porch. Also a nearby church plays chimes at noon and 6:00 p.m. So if you want a peaceful retreat in the mountains, this is not the place for you although in the house it is very quiet. In the winter when there are no leaves on the trees in the backyard woods you can see the Blue Ridge Mountains north of the house, but in the summer you can not see them from the house due to the thick foliage.
- Put your used towels in the laundry basket in the kitchen.
- If you change the temperature on the thermostat, please change it back to the original setting when you leave.
- If your children play with the toys, please pick them up before leaving.
I taught school for 30 years and recently retired in 2014. The last 21 years I taught in special education. I have been volunteering as a tutor as I still love kids and teaching them how to read. My family and I love to travel, cook, read, work in the yard, and watch movies. We especially love visiting gardens when we travel. looking at architecture, and trying out new restaurants. Holly Hill was purchased in May 2015 and after 16 months of improvements we opened our doors in July 2016. We currently do have a boarder in one of the upstairs bedrooms, but essentially you will have the house to yourself. If you want to explore the Blue Ridge Mountains and nearby Lake James and love high ceilings and lots of molding this is the place for you and your family to stay! Personally, I hated sharing a motel room with my children when they were little. This house is ideal for families because we have 5 acres to explore, a room full of books and toys for the little ones and board games, foosball, train table, and a Lego wall for the older kids. After the kids are put into their own bedroom at night, you can enjoy a glass of wine on the porch. (There are 4 local wineries within 10 minutes from the house.) We have a coffee maker, microwave, stove, commercial refrigerator and a fully stocked kitchen to cook in. I am available by phone to answer any questions.
