When I first walked into this home, I felt nothing but joy. This is the classic farmhouse of your dreams, a place where you can slow down, unplug, sleep soundly, write your novel, cook your dinner slowly, and hold a warm cup of coffee in your hands while chattering with friends and family. When you get the hankering to go outside, raining or sunny, you have the stunning Black Valley all around you. Take a hike. Hire a boat. Run for miles. Come back home, curl up with a blanket, and rest.
The space has years of fond memories associated with it. My husband and I were engaged, and, a year later, married near our cottage in the Black Valley. Years later, we brought our daughters here, and many of our family's best memories come from the long summer days spent in and around the cottage. When the solitude becomes too much, a trip to Kenmare or Killarney offers a welcome respite. Great for families, couples, adventurers!
The entire cottage will be available to guests, along with the yard, the nearby walks, mountains, streams, and lakes. The fresh air, the silence (unless the sheep are out grazing), the reading nooks... all are available to you to access and enjoy.
If you can bring a bike, do it!
We're open to pets, but also want to make sure that it's not a puppy who is still in the chewing stage.
Wifi is currently unavailable (we're working on it), and there's no TV, so if you like watching movies, prepare accordingly. Books are always an option.
Scott (a filmmaker) and Catherine (a high school English/drama teacher) live in the Los Angeles suburb of Silver Lake with their two daughters, Tessa and Eden. While this husband-wife team are opposites in many ways (he: tech-savvy guy who knows his way around a screen/she: flip-phone hold-out who still prefers a book with a binding), both share a love of film, literature, music, art, and community. The community part is especially important, which is why they love homes with front porches… a great place to sit back and talk to neighbors.
