Our family is quite social, but we are respectful of your privacy. You can see us as little or as much as you'd like! You will have options to have your breakfast in your room, at our family table or on our screened in porch.
We are a family with a special needs child and I have an in home business, so we are home a lot! Because of our son's significant needs we have many care providers coming and going as well.
We have put a lot of work into our home and yard to meet our families needs and to make this a place to gather with friends for relaxation, fun and just enjoying life!
As your host, I will try to meet your needs while I'm home or via text to make your stay a wonderful experience. I do professional organizing, so I've tried to think of your needs ahead of time! There will be times I have to focus on my special needs son or I will be working in my studio making it difficult to chat, but I will still be accessible.
We are excited to open our home to you! It's fun to learn and share interests with new friends.
All are welcome at the Peterson home!
We are a family of four, two older teens, one with special needs. Because we are limited with our travel we have made our home somewhat of a vacation space. It's a place to relax, have fun and enjoy family and friends!
As an artist, my home is also my work space. After selling my frame shop and art gallery years ago, we built an art studio where I run my business and work!
We are also a house filled with animals as well as humans! I recommend that you are a fan of furry four legged creatures and two footed birds! I am a tidy person and sweep and clean daily to minimize allergies. I do not allow our pets in the private Airbnb rooms upstairs, but our sweet rescue dog Mayo and two sassy cats, Chach and Pico, have the run of the rest of our home. The backyard chickens love hanging out with people too!
We love Minnesota and the Twin Cities and try to take advantage of all the area has to offer. We are here to help if you need suggestions for activities, directions, etc. When we aren't hosting our Airbnb you can find us in a Minnesota State Park! We love camping and are trying to get to all 76 parks!
I am also an urban organic farmer and would love to share all my hobbies with you! You will get the benefits of the chickens organic eggs, the organic garden, homemade maple syrup and various other exploits like raising Monarch butterflies!
There is a road closure on Hwy. 169 between Bren Road and Lincoln Drive. They are rebuilding a bridge. The construction area is south of our home on 169 between Crosstown 62 and Londonderry Road.
It doesn't effect the access to our home.
The Twin Cities seems to have two seasons, winter and construction. Beware getting around the cities, it may take more time due to so many construction projects this summer. Many exits are closed and Apple maps hasn't updated this information. I'm not sure about (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) maps. Maze has been a great app too!
Please park on the street, just up from the "Little Free Library." Book patrons appreciate being able to get to the library. Thanks!
Communicating by text is ideal. We spend a lot of time in the lower level of our home because of our special needs child. I always have my phone! If you need anything... movies, tv remotes, room temp, etc. you will reach me quickly by text. Also, I have a hearing impairment and may not hear you :)
You are most welcome in the common areas of our home that are listed. Unfortunately, we cannot share our entire home. Out of respect for the other members of our family, the main hub of our home is for them :) If you'd like to access the porch, pool or backyard please exit through the front door and walk around to the backyard. Then you won't be surprised or surprise someone else! If I am up and making your breakfast I will be happy to send you to the porch via my kitchen! Also, if there is inclement weather I will not make you walk through the rain! In the winter, please text me to use the hot tub, as you will be going through our family space!
I'm trying to keep the Airbnb rooms pet free for people with allergies. Please shut your door if the pets come to visit :) Animal lovers can visit our furry friends in the common areas on the main level! Also, please close your door when you leave your room. Thanks.
Organic breakfast will be provided, including wonderful fresh eggs from the backyard chickens! I love to cook, so you will get something in season from the garden or a new recipe I've been meaning to try! We will chat about what you prefer, savory or sweet and if you have and food allergies or dislikes. I will do my best to get your day started right! I will also do my best to make your breakfast at the times you desire, but during the school year I need to drop off my special needs child, at school, between 7:45 and 8:15am.
"Quiet Time" after 10pm Sunday to Thursday and 12am on Fridays & Saturdays.
Thanks so much for your understanding of our house rules! We appreciate it :)
Howdy, I'm Deb!
I like to use "old people" words & references from the 80's, as I navigate my days on this planet.
I followed a boy to Minnesota and fell in love, first with the boy, then the Twin Cities. He left me for the Peace Corps after I moved eight hours north from Lincoln, Nebraska. To shorten this potentially long tale, sufice it to say, that while he lived in Ghana, West Africa he dreamed of days by my side. So, it was our density, I mean destiny (eighties reference: hint..."Back to the..." Anyway, we have loved and shared a life here in the cities for more than two decades.
We work well together. The sciency people would say, we use different sides of our brains. I, Deb, eat a tomato everyday, paint walls, frame pictures, help people enjoy their spaces more, and I need a cup of hot water pressed through ground up beans each morning. Sometimes it is a two or three cup day.
My guy begins almost everyday with peanut butter toast and a glass of oj. It's his thing. He is a psych major, lover of bacon, and former Ole. So, that is how we came to reside in the north. What i'm saying is, this is our home. The water and lands we love. When we dine out he gets to eat the meaty things on the plate and I get all his tomatoes.
Fast forward a few years... I'm an artist. I do all kinds of visual things so I can live, eat and play. I owned a small business for years. A lovely art gallery and frame shop in Bloomington. Gregg continued to do Human Resources stuff and has worked his way to the tippy top of the "I got a problem" ladder. Mr. V.P. enjoys helping people during the week at a company called Horton. He commutes with the top down in his white Beetle. (can you say mid-life fun haver) Look for him in the diamond lanes each day!
As life seems to do, it took a turn. We had kids. This was a wonderful thing, but the roller coaster we got on continues to do loop-d-loops. Our son was diagnosed with Autism and Epilepsy. Bummer. We rallied. He's a non-verbal charmer, who loves the water, food and movies. He has a bachelor pad in the lower level of our home, complete with swings and big fluffy pillows. He's got a great thing going at age 19. However, this little twist got me to where we are today. It's not the end of the story, but I sold my business, built a studio in our home, and I continue to transform our plot of land in Hopkins, to my dream palace.
It's not a bad gig, gardening, doing artsy work, raising chickens, drinking wine with friends, eating popcorn most nights and hanging out with the fam! I'm an entrapeneur at heart, a doer, a giver, a maker of things with my hands. I love seeing these tid bits in my 16 year old daughter too. She resides in the upper level of our home, across from the Airbnb, but not for long. She will begin her college adventure next year. Don't get me started on how I will miss this young lady. She's a gem and lover of all creatures big and small. She will embark on a Zoology career, hence the array of furry creatures in our lives!
So, that has brought me to the present, life at 50! We don't feel 50, so why not invite people to hang out at our house. The Airbnb was decided, and so it is to be. Please come and enjoy our home. Let me make you a delish organic breakfast and you can hang out with the Peterson crew OR NOT, but I will always try to get you to relax in the backyard and eat tomatoes!
Hope to see you soon!
