La Casa de palo is located in one of the most central areas of Havana. A few meters away you will find Calle 23, the most important artery of Vedado, which connects Old Havana and Playa Town. The strategic position of the building allows you to visit places of recognized cultural value such as the Revolution Square, the Malecón and the Cuban Art Factory. Being the Vedado the center of the nightlife in Havana, the stay in the Casa de palo allows the maximum use of all the entertainment sites.
During the colonial period the city had to extend its margins progressively even to areas where, due to its military importance for the defense against privateers and pirates, it was forbidden to build houses (hence the name Vedado). La Casa de palo (The stick house) was one of the first houses built in this area in the 19th century and was the recreation house of a family of the habanera aristocracy. Its extensive height, ample spaces and the use of the wood defy the tropical climate of the island. The antiquity of the building, its constructive typology and its value as an exponent of the first constructions of the area, allowed its classification as a patrimonial edifice in the city. The denomination of Casa de palo comes from its exclusivity in the area and the use of wood as its most attractive feature.
Although the façade of the house and its large spaces are reminiscent of the colonial period, you can enjoy the comfort offered by contemporaneity. The house has air conditioning in the bedrooms, television and hot water. The ambiance eclecticism is expressed in 1950s furniture, wicker rocking chairs and several chairs belonging to the Vibra Collection (awarded at design events of the country) created by young Cuban designers.
