The host and staff were VERY VERY polite and helpful. But my safety and of my three friends were put into question when the apartment was broken into $1500 was stolen, my screen to my brand new laptop was broken and cracked. There was no forced entry so this means it's inside job…
Dear Richard I’m very sorry this accident happened over your staying but your review is misleading and untrue. As hosts, we did all we could to prevent, help and support even more that we were required to do so, I find your words totally rude and unfair to the truth. As the Airbnb team already has been informed about and you forgot to point it out: 1)All the precautions from our side were properly taken: we are not responsible for burglaries if the entrance and balcony doors are left open, accidents cannot be prevented unless guests afford insurances and more expensive apartments with safe box and alarms in place, if doors are not locked, any holiday accommodation is exposed to a break in. 2)Travel insurance is a guest’s responsibility, although there are more expensive packages, inclusive of all the security measures such as safe box and alarms, but they cost indeed 5 times more. 3)You said the burglary happened between 11.30 pm/ 4.00 am, if the scene was dramatically messy why did you realize it the day after and did not call us and the police straight away? Why waiting a day before informing the proper institutions? It is quite unlikely that a huge mess, due to a break in, gets to be ignored by 4 persons altogether and suddenly seen the day after, I have no recollection of such a crime scene from the pictures shown at the office. 4)You stated you couldn’t be 100% sure that the terrace doors were locked when you left the apartment: there's an adjacent terrace, access from one terrace to another is quite easy, also improper access can be achieved by sliding cards through the entrance door if not properly locked: with 4 guests in 1 flat, it is likely that one of you forgot to lock the entrance door or the balcony. 5)We offered a prompt and immediate move to a different apartment, with alarm and safe box in place, all on our expenses to ease the discomfort, it was no due, simply a kind gesture to give you safety and comfort over your last day of holiday. You turned it down, I quote your words: “You had nothing to complain about the accommodation you had chosen and did not want to waste time with the move”; I reckon you felt safe where you were, otherwise you would have jumped into a safer accommodation, especially considering that you would have been moved entirely at our own expenses. You have been very well taken care: you were kindly taken to the police station as none of you could perform any Spanish skills, Riccardo spent a day with you, helping you out and providing any possible support; qualified personnel welcomed you at the office to acknowledge and fully investigate the facts; last but not least as a host it was again a great and kind gesture to offer you alternative accommodation and additional services for a last pleasant day at our expenses, your story is a different, very rude and misleading way of telling about our professionalism and grace towards you. We took care of everything in terms of preventing the accident and dealing with it, all in our power and duties has been fully accomplished and further precautions have also been taken for the future guests: change of locks, safe box to be provided. I hope next time you will carefully take care of your belongings, having less cash handy, or simply affording insurances and different type of accommodation.
