A splendid room in a traditional house made of wood and earth, with garden, delightfully placed near the forest, in the Natural Reserve of Vâlsan River
Remote, but a great location of access to the main roads to/from BUCHAREST & TRANSYLVANIA: TRANSFĂGĂRĂȘAN, SIBIU, BRAN, BRAȘOV (please see below for details)
Bike & motorbike friendly! :)
Originally, it belonged to my grand-grandparents; we renovated in 2016, obstinately keeping everything we could in the wonderful original state.
[Please note that the price listed is considered per this room only. For renting the entire house (up to 9 guests) or one more room, please see this listing - https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/17287191 or just contact me :) For long-term rentals, we happily offer significant discounts.]
# People here call "The Good Room" the room that was originally built only for guests, which you were most proud of. We are proud to share "The Good Room" just as we inherited it, keeping the massive wooden flooring, the 45 years-old cherry-tree wardrobe, the crossed door-case and the original door, the window wooden frames, the carpets and the wall-carpets my great-grandmother made. "The Good Room" also has a beautiful white lime-plaster wood stove which can be used in winter. In hot summers, "The Good Room" is always cool and refreshing. #
Our house is located on a (very :) ) secondary road in the village of Vâlsănești, in a splendid and picturesque neighbourhood. The house is surrounded by our 2000 square meters (21.500 square feet) land - orchard, garden, yard, backyard and pasture. Our orchard has very old nut trees, mature apple trees, and young fruit trees of all sorts. And grapes. And raspberries. :)
You'll fall in love (we did also!) with the simple serenity of the entire place, with the wildbirds' concerts in the morning, with the tender sunsets with a glass of local wine in the gazebo or on the picnic blanket in the garden, with the feeling of time slowly passing by in harmony. Seldom you'll see more (and sometimes even less :) ) than a car per day crawling along our narrow village road...
We are very fond of traditional Romanian recipes, cooked slowly, outside, in iron-cast kettles. Enjoy the local savours and flavours - ask us about cooking for you. Now, about the house:
The house was raised in the 1930's by the builders' guild my great-grandpa was belonging to. After they died, in the 1990's, the house was not inhabited anymore until we started face-lifting it, in 2016. We tried renovating it respecting the wonderful cosy touch of the original house, using as many as traditional materials and techniques as we could, from wooden shingles roof, hand-made traditional-patterned ceramic tiles, to natural plasters and recycled very old alder wood, and keeping all the beautiful objects our great-grandparents had and reuse them and enjoy them. However, we equipped the house with all amenities necessary: fully equipped kitchen, washing machine, Wi-Fi etc.
At the floor level, there are two bedrooms ("The Good Room" and "The Great-Grandma's Room"), one bathroom, the kitchen and also the technical room.
Upstairs, there's a bedroom (called "The Night Sky Room" because of the large roof window through you can see the marvellous sky - no light pollution here, all stars and constellations available:), another bathroom and a generous L-shaped open-space which can be used as a big living room and, by night, as a space for sleep (the extensible sofa is placed in a niche providing privacy). Also, my tiny office for no-distraction computer work is available upstairs. :)
Outside, there are two porches/verandas and a wooden pavilion providing enough space for eating outside, and including a bread oven and a barbecue.
There are three different entrances in the house.
Due to constraints imposed by adhering to the original architecture both bathrooms are smaller than than those generally found in cities but they are spotlessly clean, well-functioning and contain all the essentials.
Oh, and under the house, there is a stone cellar where we secretly keep all the home-made delights :)
Fell free to drink your coffee in any of the verandas, to have a lazy walk in the garden, sit barefoot on the grass, read or sleep in the hammock under our ash trees, pick some raspberries or some apples, climb in the walnut or use any other space in & out the house at heart's desire.

We proudly offer a delightful and rich traditional Romanian breakfast, using exclusively natural products, home made or from local farming, including the most precious local product - round pressed & smoked cheese. Please ask us in advance about cooking for you.
Upon request we can provide traditional lunch / dinner / barbecue or you can use our kitchen / BBQ at own discretion.
We love meeting new people and being helpful with everything since we love this place and region with all my heart, but if you just want to lay back and enjoy some privacy, we'd easily switch to "silent cat" mode :)
Being placed in a natural reserve, it is not too strange for different bugs to appear seldom in the house, in spite of the repellents we regularly use. Please acknowledge that in the region there are no lethal bugs or critters - but if this makes you feel more comfortable, get your bug spray with you.
We gladly offer bikes for rental. Please ask us in advance.
- - We use to take our shoes off when we get inside. - Please do not overuse water and use responsibly all other resources! - Smoking allowed outside. - We selectively collect organic waste for composting. - Please take extra care for the unique old wall-carpets/floor-carpets/objects, so everybody can enjoy them for a long time.

Long story short, I'm an independent visual theatre artist (mime & visual theatre & more!) When I don't play or rehearse in Bucharest, I keep a small old house & tiny farm in the woody hills of Argeș county, 150 km away from Bucharest.
I'm passionate about the simple old things. That's why you'll find so many at my places, inherited from my ancestors or even bought from all over the country.
I'm passionate about real, organic, tasty, traditional and healthy food. We grow some of it :)
I'm passionate about reading books. Paper books, not e-books (although I sometimes need to). That's why I filled the entire house with them and hope that I'll read them all at least until I get in my 70s :)
Oh, yes, and I'm the father of a 2 year-old cutie :)
