Alameda is a small island town in San Francisco Bay across the estuary from Oakland. It is an attraction in its own right with many very nice stores, shops, restaurants and parks within the bustling, cosmopolitan San Francisco metropolitan area. Yet Alameda is only 15 minutes from downtown San Francisco by auto or BART train, and centrally located on the freeway system for ease of access to such atttractions as the Napa/Sonoma Counties wine country, picturesque Marin County and the Muir Woods national monument, the Pacific Ocean beaches, the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, San Francisco and its many attractions, e.g. the DeYoung Museum, the Asian Art Museum, the SOMA Museum of Art, Academy of Sciences, AT&T Park (S.F. Giants), Golden Gate Park, Chinatown, etc.
