We are very sorry to hear such a scathing review of the cottage, which we have poured a lot of love and time into. We are glad you acknowledged some extras we provided, and wish to address the rest.
On the smallness of the house, it is described as a 'cottage' so not a large home, but not tiny either. It is also described as a 'guest house' which means that there is a main house also on the farm which is connected by a walkway, there are separate entrances to each, and we have erected privacy screen as well as curtains you described, to maximize privacy for our guests.
I don't know what to say about a 'very soft' mattress, they are new with memory foam toppers.
The house has an alfresco deck and a patio out the back. The tractors you describe are in a separate paddock from the yard where the cottage is situated, through a gate. This is a working 100 acre farm, and the farm machinery around it is used for work, and most people enjoy the character of a few old rusty vehicles.
If you needed directions to get around the farm we would have been very happy to give them to you, you would have only had to ask. Dad offered to put a gate at the top of the stairs when he noticed the kids near them, and you guys said that wasn't necessary. We always ask our guests during their stay if they are happy, and if there is anything extra we can do. The only thing you guys asked for was a BBQ, so we went and got the family BBQ from around the back and set it up for you. That is now a permanent fixture at the cottage and I'm sure future guests will be grateful for it. You also asked to check in at 10am and check out at 2pm, we tried to accommodate that by giving you a 12pm check in and checkout time, which you didn't honor by leaving late anyway, you also didn't your rubbish (including dirty nappies) with you, to put in the bins at the top of the driveway, as requested in the guide book.
Brown snakes don't come out at night much, but if one was bothering you, you should have let us know and we would have called the snake catcher.
The guide book for the cottage contains a number of different suggestions for entertaining kids, and with Byron Bay just down the road most find plenty to do.
