Goodcroft is a remote farmhouse situated on the coast to coast path at the confluence of the Swindale Beck with the Lowther River among the Fairy Crags. You will have the downstairs of the east barn for your stay: A bedroom with an adjacent bathroom which has a large shower, toilet and sink; A kitchen with a washing machine, fridge and baby belling type stove with a small oven - we can place larger items in the oven next door if you fancy a roast. The living room has a TV with many DVDs.
Goodcroft is an old farm steading that was built in the 1700's among the Fairy Crags. We have converted it using recycled materials where possible, including old scaffolding boards, sheep fleece insulation and insulating recycled glass aggregate instead of sub-base below the underfloor heating.
The farmhouse is remote and accessed by a 400 metre long stone track. This means it is situated in a beautiful, secluded and peaceful spot near the pilgrims' bridge over the Swindale Beck, leading to Shap Abbey which is 20 minutes walk over the river.
Walking from the door up Selside or into Mosedale is a delight - why not take a refreshing swim in the beck? A life affirming experience any day of the year!
You can meet Magic, our pet sheep and her friends, plus the hens, dogs and cats and assorted amazing wildlife and Fell Ponies that live around Goodcroft.
You will have dedicated use of the downstairs of the east barn including bedroom, bathroom, living room and kitchen. You have your own access from the the north side of Goodcroft. There are family bedrooms in the upstairs of the barn. A staircase leads from your space to the upstairs where these rooms are but this staircase is not used at all by the family. You may hear some movement upstairs - the floorboards creak quite a lot but we will endeavor to keep this to a minimum and respect your right to well earned lie - in!

Rich and I live with our five children in the farmhouse and the upstairs of the east barn. We will be around for any queries, advice or help needed.
Access could be tricky if you have a very low profile car (that you weren't happy to leave at the lane end and walk up) or if you or any of your party are not confident on your feet, since the track can be quite rough and uneven. The ground is steep in places and there is cattle grid to cross. The site is exposed and the weather can occasionally be a little extreme!
