Experience Belize at "Finca Del Soul", a primitive off-grid backpacker's adventure camp and fruit farm centrally located in the heart of the country along the picturesque Hummingbird Highway.
We pride ourselves on living very simply in harmony with the environment, and our accommodations are basic but designed to create an inexpensive and authentic opportunity for our guests to connect with nature in a peaceful but wild setting.
The land is comprised of 13 acres including a 9-acre citrus orchard, a recently established and newly developing exotic fruit farm, intermittent creek, and base camp backing to primitive jungle with limestone outcroppings and a few small but special caves.
The base camp is located under and around our home, and features a rustic outdoor kitchen, outdoor composting outhouse, simple solar camping showers, device charging stations, and more.
There are several camping sites to choose from depending on the type of setting you would like to be in, and you will have access to exploration of this beautiful and diverse property during your stay. The land is blessed with a wide variety of plants and animals, and depending on how much time you spend here you will have the opportunity to see some amazing butterflies, tropical birds, lizards, frogs, and other animals, and possibly hearing the howler monkeys sounding off nearby.
This is the jungle and there are a wide variety of insects and other forms of life that we share our environment with. Depending on the weather and the season, the tropics can have a lot of mosquitoes and other creatures that you should always be prepared for while traveling in this part of the world.
Our mission is to create a diverse experience of tropical jungle exploration paired with an interactive educational experience in our developing organic-based fruit farm. Food is our main focus, and although this is a new project we are steadily working towards building a sustainable and bio-diverse source of clean and healthy nutrient-dense fruits, vegetables, herbs and more.
We provide some complementary add-ons including an introduction to and partial tour of the land, interactive education about sustainable living, organic farming practices, and permaculture, low-key acoustic jams or drumming, nature walks, and localized information to help you navigate and get the most out of the area. We also offer as additional services, at no obligation, healthy plant-based meals, local private ride-transfers, adventure or errand accompaniment, tent rentals, and more.
This is a camping opportunity to experience the wild and rural Belize, so you should be prepared to be as self sustainable as possible. You will be surrounded by citrus orchards and the beautiful Maya Mountains in a setting that can feel like its own private nature park but is primitive and rustic. This site is largely secluded and private, offering the opportunity to relax, enjoy, and explore this very special part of the world in a way most tourists never get to.
We are located a few miles from the Hummingbird Highway approximately halfway between Belmopan and Dangriga.
Guests who rent a car or take a taxi should be sure to have four-wheel-drive, as the site is accessed via an unimproved farm road and could be difficult to pass with two-wheel drive. Guests without transportation can arrange to be met at the bus-stop at mile 29 on the Hummingbird Highway at the Bird Walk turnoff across from "Over-the-Top" by the cell phone tower for $5 BZ round-trip. Fuel is expensive in Belize and this only reimburses our gas.
During your stay you will have access to your private campsite, the base camp and primitive amenities, and exploration of the jungle area, caves, orchard, and surrounding area. While we aim to minimize technology and electronics, wi-fi is available through a mobile hotspot with data that can be purchased on an as-needed basis. Campsites are $8 per night with your own tent or $12 per night to include a two-person tent with a rain fly. Guests should have a sleeping bag or some type of bedding for the tent.
Our energy comes from solar power and our water comes from rain catchment and filling up at the local river. Guests will have access to these amenities but should understand they are limited resources and should be used respectfully.
With your own car you can access the surrounding area at your discretion, otherwise we can help arrange for rides or guide services to visit local attractions.
During major storm events (ie hurricanes or several days of severe rain) the seasonal creek can become difficult to pass and your reservation will be refunded if you are not able to access the site.
Interakcija s gostima
You will have the ability to create a private or more interactive experience while you are here. We are usually around the house or working in the garden or orchard, and allow you the leeway to explore and enjoy the land on your own or you are welcome to join us in some of our activities.
Working is not required, but guests who are interested in organic farming and permaculture are welcome to volunteer some time in exchange for education about our practices and some of the fruits or produce from the land (depending on availability).
We strive to a live clean, nature-based simplistic lifestyle and enjoy conversations with open-minded people. We will respect your privacy and leave you to as much peace and quiet as you need, or we will be available during your stay for some social time or if you need anything.
- We are focused on natural farming practices and hold the highest respect for the land and its inhabitants. In order to maintain the cleanest and purest environment possible, no alcohol, pets, cigarettes, animal products, or other guests besides the accepted booked visitors.
