Massages, hike planning etc. all available.
Suite Whimsy - A whimsical Space to rest and relax in a Carpenter Gothic Old Hotel from the 1840's. Situated upstairs with a private entrance to the back yard.
Includes 1 bedroom with a new Queen Simmons Beauty Rest Mattress and box spring, goose down duvet and old chenille bedspread. Also in the suite is sitting room with a window seat overlooking Chester's garden. (Chester's is part of an expansive English Cottage style Garden system that envelopes the whole property.) Suite Whimsy also includes a Cute Private bath, Heat/AC, and private stairway to backyard. We use Vermont Country Soap for most things and all is cruelty free and sodium laurel sulfate free products. Feel free to ask us about them.
The Common spaces includes: a living room, gathering space and kitchen and expansive porches.
-The Living Room is appointed to be comfortable yet harken back to past glory. Many family antiques and rare edition books can be found here. Includes an old spinning wheel from the 1700's and a modern propane fireplace to while away rainy days just reading. Or just dry your outer garb before heading back to the slopes or hiking the National Forest. An old Velvet wingback chair is still one of the most comfortable chairs in the house. All sit on top of an eccentric old floor that is original to the house. The floor is so worn the knots poke up through and create waves along the wood. (It’s one of my favorite places -Matt)
-The Gathering Room is in the newer part of the House. Here you'll find a dining area, work station for business, and another living area with big overstuffed leather chairs and couch. The Piano is also here. It's a Tiger Maple Tadashi and they are no longer sold in the U.S. Rounding out the area is a half bath and a Hoosier that doubles as a coffee/tea station. The Keurig is always on so feel free to take advantage.
-The Kitchen is a large space that I love. Stainless appliances, including an ice machine in the freezer, keeps things flowing. Red Cherry cabinets house most anything one needs, you just supply the food. Whether its Le Creuset Dutch ovens or a big Wok we've got it. (If you can’t find something let us know!). In the middle is my great great great grandma's kitchen table. It has seen several generations but still has life left in her. Please feel free to use what is in the kitchen, including the food that may be in the fridge (unless marked). I keep condiments, milk, orange juice, cheese, fruit and sauces available to guests. If I don't have it here the General Store is right around the corner and open each day till 6pm
-Porches round out the Hotel in the nicer months. A large front porch wraps around two sides to the front door. Great resin wicker chairs by Hampton bay and our sturdy old porch swing make for a great relaxing space to read, talk, or watch the world go by and watch sunsets. Please feel free to wave at everyone, they will wave back. Through the breezeway entrance you can exit onto the back porch that runs the length of the building. Here our old gliding couch, Bread Loaf and Adirondack chairs sit in the quiet shade of a very tranquil backyard. Sometimes you can watch them hay the back field but otherwise the hummingbirds and butterflies have control of the space. You can continue on into the yard where there is a large patio with tables and umbrellas or on to the fire pit for late night s'mores sessions. Croquet and Bocci are in the shed.
- Bonuses include wifi, heat/AC throughout the house and a great swimming hole just across the street. "The Mill" is used by several locals and there is no better way to cool off on a hot day than to dip in the New Haven River.
-Beyond Lincoln we are centrally located between Burlington (1hr), Middlebury (30min), Vergennes (30min) and Rutland (1hr). The lake (Lake Champlain) is a half hour West and Ticonderoga also is about a hour away. Vineyards, local restaurants, IPA's, hiking, biking, museums and farm stands are all close by. Lincoln itself is located inside the National Forest, with access to lots of hiking trails and the Long Trail all right outside the front door. There is lots to see and lots of spectacular views.
Suite Whimsy Sleeps 2 and there is room for 1 or two kids on the floor if you bring a sleeping bag. Sorry, no pets! Owners have a cat (and that should be taken into account if one is allergic!)
-Keurig Machine for coffee/tea
-Ice machine in freezer

Extra things you may want to know:
Driving Directions. Specifically in late fall and Winter!
-Front wheel drive works fine as long as you have good snow tires. Please be advised that the Lincoln Gap CLOSES for the winter. If you use any internet/cell data based or GPS device, please, please, please, be sure it does not take you over Lincoln Gap! By the time one reaches the Gap, you will not have cell coverage to find your way out. So be sure to check the directions or bring a paper map with you. Feel free to call or email me before you leave and I can give you directions that bypass the gap.
-I have a cat. His name is Kato and he is a 16 year old cross-eyed asthmatic rescue cat. He is a lot of fun but has recently gone deaf so is pretty skittish around people. That said, he has boundary issues. I will usually keep him in my suite away from guests food but please be sure to keep things put away or wrapped up. Also Please note that he is allowed in the backyard but he is not allowed out the front. The back is fenced in and this affords him his outdoor time.
-Lastly, its an old house. With any older home come sticky doors, creeks and groans. If you have any trouble with anything or questions please do not hesitate to call or ask.
These amenities are available so long as you schedule them in advance of your stay. (Usually a good 3-5 days ahead).
Guided Day hikes or bike tours are available
Food, wine, beer, Cheese tours available
Massages, Foot and Nail care available
(Suite Whimsy and owners Not responsible for missed, canceled or any services provided by independent contractors that providing amenities above.)
The most important thing to remember is the Golden Rule. Just treat the House and stuff the same way! There are some things to keep in mind:
1. Quiet time is between 10pm and 8am each day
2. No smoking of any kind. Inside or out
3. Muddy hiking? Take those boots off outside
4. Always ask if unsure, there is no foolish question
