Our house has 3 floors and is part of a terrace of stone houses in the beautiful village of Freshford on the outskirts of Bath. The area is well known for its scenery and wonderful walks. The village has a great pub that serves excellent food, a vibrant community shop with a cafe and a train station all within easy walking distance of the house. It takes only 9 minutes to get to Bath City Centre on the train.
Our house was built around 1820 and has thick stone walls which keep it cool in the summer and warm in the winter. It has thermostatically controlled gas central heating and wood burning stoves in the dining room and sitting room. There is off-road parking at the front of the house and then steps lead up and around the garage to the front door.
On the ground floor there is a sitting room, with a high definition 40 inch TV with internet access, hard drive storage and a hi-fi stereo system; a dining room which has a table comfortably seating 8 people, a Mac desktop computer and lots of games and arts and crafts materials. There is an opening through to a fully equipped kitchen including kettle, fridge, freezer, dish washer, microwave, gas hob, fan oven, grill, toaster, bread-maker and food processor. Leading off the kitchen is a small utility area with a washing machine, sink and larder and a door giving access to the gardens at the back. Another door gives access to a small bathroom containing a WC. The garden at the back is terraced with a lawn area and two decks with tables and chairs.
On the first floor there is the main bathroom which has a WC, wash basin, bath and a separate shower and underfloor heating. There is a double-bedded room on this floor, a bedroom with two single beds and a third room which we use as a yoga room with a piano. On the next floor up there is another bedroom with windows front and back. It has a superkingsize bed with a tempur mattress.
We have two children aged 9 and 12 and have lived in the house for the last 8 years. We are very happy for families to stay here but please bear in mind that young children will need adult supervision in some areas. In particular: there are no stair gates; the garden is terraced with unfenced drops and a shallow pond; there are no childproof catches on cupboard doors or equipment. On the other hand: chemicals and medicines are stored well out of reach; there are loads of games and toys and books; the neighbours also have young children and are very friendly; there is a playground in the village and, as well as all the family-friendly attractions in Bath, Longleat Safari Park is a 25-minute drive away.
There is an understanding that you will leave the house in the same state as you find it. If you don't want to do the cleaning yourselves then we can employ a cleaner to clean the house after you have left. The cost is an extra £35. If you want to book a cleaner we have to agree on it before arrival. We will then send you a new price offer with the fee included, which you will have to accept. We will provide all sheets and towels at no extra cost. Please strip the beds when you leave, and leave all the laundry in a pile in the yoga/piano room.
No Hen Parties or Stag Dos.
Please let us know the number of adults and children in your party when enquiring.
