Extremely private romantic, unique, soulful retreat residing on a pristine 11 acre property w/ pool, hot tub & dreamy outside shower that looks out to a stunning open hillside with trees of fruit, walnut & oak. Renew! a mere 12 minutes from downtown Santa Barbara
Hello and welcome to the land!
1705 San Marcos Pass Road, Santa Barbara, CA 93105
This is a retreat offering.. a place to unravel, renew, reorganize. Though community is a lovely thing, this is not the time or place to invite guests or have parties sorry to say. Perfect for people who wish to enjoy the nature Santa Barbara has to offer as well as taking advantage of the cosmopolitan attractions of the city.
Below some information about the space and land here. By agreeing to be a guest at my home through airbnb, you are agreeing to not hold me in any way liable/responsible for accidents, injury etc.. You are a visitor of this magic, sweet home and land and are agreeing to be here at your own risk!
Really pleased to get to share in this remarkable place with you and appreciate you taking great care with it. Mutual respect and gratitude is the energy of this exchange and makes for a beautiful experience all around. Hope being here is as inspiring to you as it is to me and my family.
From 101 (in the city of Santa Barbara)
Exit Hwy.154/ State street/ Lake Cachuma (follow signs to hook onto the 154!)
Go 2 miles up the 154 pass
LEFT TURN onto private unnamed drive (you'll see a row of mailboxes/ one says 1705)
Take drive down into the valley 1/2 mile staying to your RIGHT on paved road
When you reach the bottom of the valley, cross bridge and continue straight. Just before you dead end you'll see the driveway of the house (metal gate) where you will make a LEFT turn onto the dirt road.
Soon is the garage on the left. Go another 20 feet or so then make an IMMEDIATE RIGHT TURN THROUGH the BLACK GATE which you open manually. Please be SURE to ALWAYS close behind you! ** DO NOT DRIVE STRAIGHT onto the other property at 1585 please!!!
*PLEASE NOTE: Surrounding neighbors may ask who you are, so to let them know simply.. that you are "friends visiting Jennifer". Thank you!
Once you enter the gate, please drive up the dirt road until it dead ends at the yurt! As you go up, you'll see my 2 story building with the big round window, then the path way to the bath house, then finally the yurt!
Big things to remember. No fires in wood burning stove (if we are not in the rainy season due to fire danger. If you're not sure, please ask!! Also CRITICAL that you follow all the rules of how to use the stove and make a fire in the manual below. Thank you). Use LEFT knob ONLY for shower.... already mixed warm!
There are written instructions for the main stuff on the desk there. Filtered water for you, towels, coffee/ tea stuff all in the cabinet by the bed. Extra warm bedding also in case you need it.
YURT & BATH-HOUSE INFO FOR YOU!
Ah, feel free to open all the windows and doors. One of the most beautiful things about this place is using the outside as an extension of your living space. Stretch out and feel welcome!
CHECK IN/ CHECK OUT:
You may arrive as early as 2:00pm and checkout is by 11:00am. Please let me know when you will be arriving so I can greet you and show you around!
There are no keys to the yurt or bathhouse. If there is something truly valuable to you, please bring along when you go out. For myself, I don't lock my home. Feels very safe here, but do what feels right to you!
Ah clean!! Please respectfully leave the space as you found it. Cleaning fee goes towards taking care of surfaces, your sheets/towels, shower... basic stuff like that. Anything beyond normal use, $20/ hour is applied. Thank you so much for helping to make the home beautiful for you and others to share!
SPACES FOR YOUR THINGS and PRIVATE AREAS:
Some closet and drawer spaces are provided for your things. Private areas including cabinets and such will labeled 'private' OR will have a BROWN STRING attached to make it easier for you to know where to go and not to.
IMPORTANT FIRE THINGS:
1. NO SMOKING!!
Even outside NO smoking! We have to be EXTREMELY careful as Santa Barbara is coastal desert and extremely prone to fire especially at the yurt as it is surrounded by dry grass and brush. Thank you!
2. WOOD BURNING STOVE:
Unless we are in the rainy season... the wood burning stove is not permitted for use!! But most of the year is!!! Wonderful, romantic and great source of heat!!
Never leave fire attended!
Stove door must be sealed shut and locked with handle once fire is going (burns slower and hotter this way, conserving wood and for fire prevention)
NEVER leave stove door open when not present or falling asleep
Never have logs protruding out of the stove. All wood, kindling and paper must be completely inside the stove stacked such that there's little chance of anything falling out
Only use split wood and paper bags inside stove, NO FOOD inside or on top. Do not use the stove to heat food or liquids.
Flammable materials must be away from stove area at all times whether or not you make a fire
NEVER discard ashes outside, in trash etc.... after a fire is finished or at any time as they can still be extremely Flammable. The landscape surrounding the yurt is a fire hazard area if met with hot ash.
Begin your fire with some paper bag and kindling and then the most split side of a piece of wood leaving some space so things can have air to catch on fire.
Add more wood as the flames strengthen. Once the logs are burning strong, please seal the stove with gold door handle.
3. NO CANDLE or OIL LAMP BURNING!
I do have lots of beautiful ambient lights.. so feel free to get your environment beautiful that way. Thank you!!
All the ambient lighting is on one switch by the door! Just flick it on and... well.. very romantic! You can also dim it as much or little as you like as there is a slider which allows you to choose how ambient. You can also design your own lighting by turning individual lights on and off by their individual switches or at the outlet. Please DO leave lighting in place!
Plans are underway for a deck railing designed from tree branches (i.e. GORGEOUS!). So although the deck is solid and safe in itself, until a railing is up, I am asking people to not use it for safety assurance! Many thanks.
STEREO and DVD player:
Turn DVD/CD player turn on, eject.. disk in.. close, press play.
Amp must be turned on (unit on the right) select DVD player for DVD and CDs alike. Volume knob is there on the right. Please turn off both units when not in use.
To use your Ipod or phone use the hanging cable to plug in. Select AUX on the amp to listen! You may need to wiggle the cable to get the full sound, otherwise you'll only hear it from one speaker. so wiggle til it works!! enjoy!
To play WI and watch DVD movies: turn TV on and press the very left button until you get a view of your movie or WI.
EGGS, OH YES!
Delicious and organic. I can send you off with some fresh eggs to take home with you if you'd like! (Sad warning: Chickens do not lay eggs year round. They rest themselves in the fall/winer.)
Provided to use while you are here for hot tub, bath house or night hiking adventures!:
HOUSE and BARN
Private zones. Not part of the yurt offering. Thank you!
SHOWER BATH - HOUSE
The bath house is a beautiful 1-2 minute walk from the Yurt, situated near the pool/hot tub area, in the fruit tree orchard. It is a clean, private COMMON space (not shared with house guests, but sometimes shared with myself and my little girls). This may be one of the best parts of being on the land here.. showering day or night under stars or looking out to the gorgeous expanse all around. Beautifully recalibrating!
NUMBER 1, NUMBER 2
You may.. uh number 1 outside BUT to ALWAYS always respect the land by disposing of your tissue in the trash in the yurt. NO NO NO number 2 buried or otherwise outside. ONLY use the plumbing which is the bath house toilet by outside shower for this). Thank you!!
LIGHTING YOUR WAY
There is a light switch on the deck of the bath house to the left of the door to the toilet. This switch turns on lighting for the deck as well as the orchard path leading to the road and yurt.
Simply turn the LEFT KNOB ONLY (not right knob) for the perfect temperature. To change the hotness or coldness, you do so from the bathroom (water heater is above toilet).. turn left knob (above toilet) for desired shower temperature. It is very sensitive.. so a small turn will go a very long way to hotter or colder depending on what you want!
Filtered water provided. I recommend filing it up at the bathhouse. Faucet outside yurt is well water. Fine for rinsing cups etc... but brushing teeth, recommend water at bathhouse.
On occasion, there may be 1-2 cute little frogs living in the outside bathroom area. Feel free to gently place them outside your working zone if you'd like.
Please use luxurious large colored pool towels for the pool, house towels for bathing. Provided for your use in the cabinet to the left of the bed. Bath towels will either be in the cabinet or at the bath house!
If you need to remove your trash etc... before your stay is over, you may drive it up to where the big dumpster is on our private road situated with the huge piles of dirt and rocks a bit before you get to the highway.. past the bridge and up the hill. Otherwise OK to leave. Trash bags in the cabinet!
Being that we are off a private drive, you may encounter a neighbor asking who you are. We sometimes watch out for each other in this way so to please let them know you are FRIENDS VISITING JENNIFER. Thank you!
I set up a little coffee station for you in case you are one of the many who consume this mighty drink (whole beans, grinder, drip filter etc..). Also a selection of teas with electric kettle.
Just by your smart phone in the sweet spots (I am on verizon, which works quite well). No internet (for laptop) up at the yurt = relaxing to the nervous system. Ahhhhh!
POISON OAK WARNING!
If you decide to frolic through the fields or up the horse trail (really beautiful and highly recommend, the trail), be on the look out for POISON OAK. It has 3 leaves, sometimes shiny and red... can be a small or grand sized bush. If you get it, you will be sorry! So don't touch any plant that you aren't sure about. Need to be particularly careful around the yurt area. Please stay on clear paths and don't brush up on plants if you can. Wear shoes and remove when you enter the yurt for yours and others' safety. The plant poison is an oil, so if you get it on you, it will transfer to any surface you touch (like shoes to floor etc..) Happy to show you what it looks like and where to look out for it!
POOL/ HOT TUB-
This pool hot tub area is a common space for all on the land.. which is no more than 4-6 people (including you) at any given time. So far no one has crossed paths as everyone seems to magically take turns!
Please rinse off before entering the hot tub or pool. If you are in need of a good washing, do that first so we can keep the waters lovely for each other. There's a hose by the oak tree that's a nice way to go as well.
HOT TUB: (rinse off before entering.)
Please do NOT change the temperature of the hot tub. Thank you!
1. Open from the panel side. You can flip the whole thing open once inside easier thus keeping the framework in place.
2. Always close and lock and have hot tub cover evenly covered.
3. Be sure jets are OFF when leaving the hot tub.
Please rinse off before entering. It's a strange bowl like shape, so when you jump, jump far!
GARDENER/ HELPING HANDS:
You may encounter the sweet people that help maintain the land. I will always try to give you a heads up on any workers we have here. But typically landscape weekly maintenance lands on Fridays and pool cleaning on Thursdays.
Quiet in the valley 9pm. Feel free to watch movies all night long. That sound doesn't carry much.
If you need to reach me, please do so by cell phone or TEXT: (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)
