WELCOME TO WASHINGTON DC!!! A Capitol City
My neighborhood - Capitol Hill - is a vibrant neighborhood. The area is known for being the seat of the government, as it is the home to the Capitol, Library of Congress, Union Station, Supreme Court and the Senate and House office buildings. However, it is also known for its restaurants, coffee shops, stores and Nationals baseball team.
You will be staying in one of the most popular areas: Eastern Market. The Historic Eastern Market has been operating for over 150 years and is open every day of the week except Monday. It has fresh foods, vegetables and baked goods all week. On the weekends, it is a flea, local artist and antique market. If you walk out my front door turn right and walk ½ block to the Eastern Market Metro Station and walk down 7th Street to Eastern Market.
The Eastern Market Metro Station is at the corner of 7th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, SE. Located at the various corners are: A Starbucks, Baskin Robbins/Dunkin Donuts, Kinkos, CVS, Radio Shack, FED Ex and a Public Library.
RESTAURANTS, COFFEE SHOPS and LIQUOR STORES. There are many restaurant and coffee shops within a few blocks with almost any kind of food you want. There are restaurants on Pennsylvania Avenue heading east along the seven blocks to the US Capitol.
There are restaurants on 8th Street (head towards Starbucks and turn right on Eighth Street). That area is called Barrack’s Row. For foodies: one of the more famous restaurants is Roses Luxury, voted the best new restaurant in the United States in 2014.
There are restaurants down 7th Street toward Eastern Market. There are also liquor stores on Pennsylvania Avenue and 8th street.
METRO: The Blue , Orange, and Silver lines are at the Eastern Market Metro. Buy a SMARTRIP card in the station... and it works on both buses and metro. You can buy a SMARTRIP card at the metro station or at the CVS.
BUS LINES. The bus lines, 30N and (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) and 39 head straight down Pennsylvania Avenue to Downtown DC. passing the Library of Congress, the House Office buildings, the Capitol, the Botanical Gardens, and all of the Smithsonian museums, including the American Indian Museum, the Air and Space Museum, the National Gallery of Art, and the Museum of Natural History. At the Air and Space the bus turns right onto seventh and passes directly through the Mall to the Archives and Penn Quarter. From there it heads to Georgetown.
The Circulator bus runs to Eastern Market and Penn Quarter The bust stop is at the Market Metro, cross the street to the other side to head into town.
WHEN YOU RIDE THE BUSES YOU PAY ONE TIME FOR 3 HOURS OF RIDING- IN any direction and as much as you want. Just use your smartrip card.
