A cozy, convenient base for your DC adventure. Quick access to many places via bus, train, bike, or your own two feet, yet removed from the hustle and bustle of the city.
We have done our best to provide you with a cozy, thoughtfully appointed space (or for the Hemingway enthusiasts out there: a clean, well-lighted place). This apartment is an English basement that is complete separate from our home, with several windows and doors leading in from the street and exiting into our backyard/garden. In summer we have a robust herb and vegetable garden as well as a peach tree, which we are more than happy to share with guests when in season.
A major perk of the apartment is free (and easy!) street parking. The street is unmetered and no permits necessary: we never have trouble finding a spot for our car. For those of you familiar with DC, you'll know how rare this can be in the city! For public transit, the NoMa Red Line station is a 12 minute walk, the P6 bus taking you to the Verizon Center stops a block away, and the DC bikeshare system (Capitol Bikeshare) has a docking station at the end of our block.
This space offers an inviting living room equipped with a TV + Chromecast for all your streaming needs. The futon folds out to a twin-sized bed for an additional guest, though we also have an air mattress available depending which you prefer (the futon is pretty firm, though we have been testing other pads to improve the experience). There is also a bar-height table which you can use to do some work or plan out your next destination in DC. We have fun art we’ve collected over the past several years hung throughout the apartment. We also like hearing which painting is your favorite!
If you like to cook, you should have everything you need to prepare breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The kitchen has a full-sized stove, refrigerator, oven, and dishwasher, with plenty of pots and pans and utensils to get the job done. There is also a toaster oven for making quick toasty sandwiches or heating up pizza so it stays crisp. Should you be the kind to want to pack snacks while you’re out exploring the town, we’ve got you covered with basics such as plastic bags and some small portable containers.
There is a standard bathroom with a shower stall and all the basic soaps and shampoos you may need. Freshly laundered linens, including towels, are of course provided.
Speaking of freshly laundered, there is a full-sized washer/dryer tucked away in the kitchen. We can provide you with some detergent if you have a load or two you'd like to do while here.
Finally, there is a small bedroom with a queen bed and nightstand lamps so you can wind down with a book before going to sleep. We keep several hangers in the closet for anything you’d like to hang, and can provide you with a suitcase stand if it’s easier to keep your clothes right where you packed them :).
As a final note: the ceilings are a bit lower than you may be used to. While the majority of the apartment has ceilings not even the tallest of you would bump into, the area under the ductwork (i.e., along the backside of the apartment and in portions of the bedroom) is noticeably lower. We find it cozy, but want you to have a full picture of what the apartment is like.

We live right above the apartment, and try to be as available for our guests as you want us to be. Of course, if you don’t want to hear from us, that’s fine too. We try our best to answer every email with 24 hours in the period between you booking with us and arriving, and try to respond within the hour during the period you are actually staying here: I know from my own experiences staying in foreign cities how time-sensitive some questions/requests can be! Always feel free to call, text, or email at any hour while in DC.
My name is Sam, and me and my husband Misha would be delighted to serve as your home base during your stay in DC. I'm a transplant from Chicago, and while that city will always hold a special place in my heart, DC is really growing on me. Between vibrant local culture and national landmarks, there's a little for everyone. I love seeking out hole-in-the-wall restaurants to uncover hidden gems (ask me about them!), and Misha's coffee game is strong. If you need suggestions on things to do, or figure out the best way to get where you're trying to go, don't hesitate to ask.
