Rustic getaway in the Garfagnana area of northern Tuscany. Perfect for walkers, mountain-bikers or those just wanting to relax and enjoy glorious scenery and good food & drink. Away from it all but with easy access to Lucca, the coast and much more.
The apartment is the self-contained upper storey of an 1860s stone farmhouse in the tiny hamlet of Noceto, near the village of Filicaia and 8km from the town of Castelnuovo di Garfagnana. It comprises living/dining room with wood burning stove, sitting room with small TV & DVD player, 2 twin-bedded rooms, bathroom, (where the washing machine is) with bath (shower hose only) and bidet and fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher. Central heating is available for the colder months and towels and bed linen are provided. There is a balcony overlooking the large, private garden/orchard with pizza oven area. There are also parking spaces for 2 cars. No swimming pool, aircon, wi-fi or satellite TV I'm afraid: it isn't that sort of place! (We buy an Italian SIM card for the ipad for internet access when we're there.)
Guests have full and sole access to all the self-contained apartment and garden have to offer, including fruit and nuts from the trees, when in season! Not ideal for those with limited mobility as the apartment is accessed via steps.

We prefer to communicate by email, text or Facetime and are happy to provide you too with the email addresses of previous (pre-Airbnb) guests who can share their Noceto experiences with you (in confidence!). We will not be around during guests' visits but have a local friend on hand to deal with any problems. We are also contactable via email or mobile phone throughout your stay.
This is the centre of the 'Slow Food' movement and there are lots of excellent restaurants offering local specialities - game, porcini mushrooms, chestnuts, farro (spelt). Although there's plenty to explore on foot in the immediate area, a car gives easy access to beautiful Lucca, the magnificent 'marble mountains' of the Apuan Alps, the Tyrrhenian coast, the caves of the Grotto del Vento, the Orecchiella national park, the fortress at Veruccole (FABULOUS views!), the lakes of Vagli and Gramolazzo, dozens of pretty hilltop towns and villages ........ You get the idea!
Sorry, no dogs.
Absolutely no smoking, please.
Minimum stay - 4 nights
After 30 years of teaching German and French, I am now LOVING my retirement and the time it gives me to do the things I enjoy - travelling, concerts, spending time with family and friends, trying (not very successfully!) to improve my Italian .....
I am married to Klaus, a retired electronics engineer and now a photographer, and we have 3 grown-up sons, all of whom have inherited the travel bug.
Much as we love Noceto, there are lots of other places we want to see, so it makes sense to offer it to other people when we're not there. The next best thing to being there ourselves is the vicarious pleasure of knowing how much guests have enjoyed it and hearing about their experiences.
