Upon check-in, Corey was extremely friendly and we chatted quite a bit about his vacation, upcoming travels, even his occupation in technology in California. While on property about 2 hours after check in, Corey left his room and asked for dinner recommendations which were provided. In the presence of the property's caretaker, I asked him if everything was fine with the room to which he replied it was. He again asked about internet capabilities which again I informed him there were none (posted on AirBnB) and he proceeded to a nearby restaurant. After 3PM the following day, Corey e-mailed to say that he was disappointed with the room and had left and was now staying at another location and requested a refund for that night. He then proceeded with a list of complaints which were all unfounded such as "a huge hole in the ceiling" - a heat extractor! Maybe they don't have those things in Cali? Out of kindness and not obligation, I offered him a half night off since I wanted him to enjoy his stay in Dominica wherever that turned out to be.
All in all, I believe Corey wanted certain amenities which were not available and are not advertised for that very reason. Had he communicated his distaste upon or even after check in, he would have gladly been referred to one of 3 other properties in the area and fully refunded despite AirBnB's rules. Gachette's Seaside Lodge is an old hotel which will be undergoing repairs within the next 6 months. However, the rooms are clean, quiet, spacious, simple and CHEAP. When the simplicity of the room was described to him prior to his arrival, he responded "I'm not a fussy traveller, I'd rather stay in local places than big hotels. " Island people are warm, friendly and hospitable people but leaving a nasty review after saying "everything is fine" when asked, and checking out early and demanding a refund is not the way to go. We could have worked it out. All the best to you.
