I can't help but laugh upon reading your review. I was not going to respond but I think it is needed in this situation.
First of all, of the many guests and reviews I had, only you blatantly screaming that YOU DO NOT RECOMMEND ME AS A HOST. I'd like you to know that I do respect your opinion.
Let me explain my side.
1.) On USD11 for 2 car rides.
The night before you left you were questioning the car charges. You sent me 3 times the same message below;
"Ok great. I depart from terminal 1 at 6:50am. Also, my fair there is showing P150 and it was P200 from the mall. I am wondering about paying you P350 for the rides today?"
I then respond, explaining about the charges. (Please take note that these charges have been explained to you upon check in and you agreed). Below is my response to your message.
Hi Jess! This is the breakdown for the car service.
Airport pick up is PhP350.
To Makati PhP200.
Total is PhP550.
The PhP350 ride from the airport to my place is standard. It was also advertised on my Airbnb listing.
The PhP200 to Makati is fair rate. You can check.
2.) On my listing as basic.
Yes I agree with you. For 19USD that is what you can expect. If you want 5 star hotel then please don't book your travels through Airbnb. My home is basic but it has its own good points. For the 19USD we get, in return you get: wifi 24/7, air-conditioned room, free water, tea and coffee, toiletries, fresh towel and all the other small but important stuff that goes with it. We also allowed you to check in earlier than the check in time. Check in time is 2pm and you arrived around 10am.
3.) On Services offered marked up 1.5x the amount it should costs.
The 2 car rides you booked in advance was priced and advertised on my listing and was also explained to you upon check-in. If you did not read my listing then it is your fault. If you expect that we charge you taxi rate for the airport pick-up then please understand that you were picked up by a private car with private driver. The driver then parked at the airport to make sure you don't sweat waiting outside. So I am sorry but there is no way we can be the same rate as taxi. The difference from the airport if you took taxi will be USD3. USD3 and hassle-free. You get what I mean?
4.) On Paying for your rides will need to be in cash and with exact change.
Again, Jess, when you arrived the car service was explained by me to you and you agreed. You did not mention you want to pay electronically. The night before you left when you were questioning the charges, you never mentioned you want to pay electronically. So again, you didn't really mention to me that you want to pay electronically for the car services. And FYI, my 1st guests broke my gas range (long story) and they paid electronically. I do accept payment/s electronically, you just didn't mention it to me.
5.) On trying to pay Jenny
Hearsay. All I can say is Jenny been working with us for 6 years. Jenny said, you did not try paying her for the car services rendered. She woke up 4am to help you get an Uber. She made sure you get to the airport on time. She then walked you out of the gate to your taxi and when you were inside the taxi you said you'll just deal with the car services payment online. So no gesture of paying and no Jenny saying she doesn't have change. Jenny always have change. We have a jar in the house full of change. Jenny holds 1 of my ATM too. Given the situation she would know where to get change. You did not communicate with me either before your departure that you will pay me online as what you are claiming. You had the chance to say so the night before you left as we were chatting through Airbnb.
6.) On you suffering from Malaria
I'm a bit confused on this. If you were suffering from Malaria why did you asked my driver to drive you to the mall? You then spent all your afternoon there and early evening shopping. I know this because I went to the guest room when I woke up and saw all the Landmark shopping bags scattered on the floor. Also, if you did inform me you are ill (which you never showed you were), I could have taken you to the village clinic (this is also advertise on my listing that we have clinic in the village) rather than my driver taking you to the mall. Actually, reading your review I can't help but think that maybe something is wrong with you. How on earth you can spend hours in the mall when you should be in a hospital as you are claiming you have Malaria symptoms? I'm confused. And yes, it freaks me out too that an ill person (having Malaria symptoms) would rather go shopping than have herself checked.
7.) On not having DOOR to the bathroom
I find this funny actually. As I write this reply, 2 men are working on the wheels of the sliding doors because it wouldn't slide properly. So both toilet and bathroom have separate doors. They are tinted sliding doors with stickers on both sides so no one can see you while showering or using the toilet. And yes BOTH DOORS slides properly now :-) I'd say another LIE on your part.
8.) On cabs GPS not finding the house
I'm sorry but if your taxi driver is stupid it will not be on me. You can use Waze or (Hidden by Airbnb) maps. I use them myself so I know it works. BTW, why didn't you look on the maps yourself? And again, this is the hassle when taking taxis. But you get what you paid for as you say it, so let's not argue on this. You didn't want a private car because it costs USD3 more than taxi so darling you have to bear if the driver doesn't know the way.
9.) On Manila traffic
Sorry darling but traffic is one of the many problems of my country. I actually tell all my guests that traffic in Manila is unpredictable. That it can be 15min or 1 hour. I even told you myself through text via Airbnb. Below is my message to you explaining your travel time to the airport.
"We are close but all depends on traffic. You know how bad the traffic here in Manila. It can be less than 10min or 1 hr"
So traffic is also my problem. If you experienced it please don't take it on me or my home :-)
10.) On accessing other areas of my home.
I remember while you were registering we did offer you refreshments and you said you would like to have water. To which Jenny obliged. You saw where the dining and kitchen is (my home is not huge so you can see all the other areas while sitting in the family room). As soon as you did your EARLY check in (my listing said 2pm check in time, you arrived around 10am and we very kindly let you stay in your room), you wanted to go to your room immediately and rest as you were going to the mall at 1pm, that afternoon. So yes, I didn't show you around because you wanted to go straight to your room and told me you want to sleep. You also arrived in the evening when I am already in my bedroom so no chance. We did chat though that evening and you could have asked me to show you around and I will be very happy to do so.
Jess you were right to say I have a lot of growing up to do. The problem is I TRUST easily. I believe in mankind. That treating others with respect and kindness is a must and the way to go. That it is not money that matters the most. Thank you for making me realise that I always have to watch my back from people like yourself. Yes definitely a lesson to learn. And I can only thank you for that.
On me not understanding the ins and outs of Airbnb hosting, I am sorry but I have to disagree with you on this. Of the 16 reviews I received, only 1 is negative and that is your review. My background is 23 years in hospitality management. Dealing with embassies, chambers of commerce, private clubs, corporate accounts, restaurants, hotels, event planning and travels.
You have your own Airbnb listings. If I am not mistaken 3. Of all the many guests I expected you to be the best. So I think it is right for me to say that it is you who doesn't know the Ins and Outs of hosting in general.
Lying and making up stories is BAD.
