A few notes and house rules
We would love your family to feel at home and enjoy your stay, but please take extra care with the following…
To ensure we keep the floorboards in excellent condition for our guest’s enjoyment, please wipe any spills immediately and don’t leave wet towels on the floors. We have a professional cleaning service who will come in to clean the floors, so please don’t clean them with other products.
We would love our guests to enjoy soft fresh towels, so please do not use them on the beach.
On Friday morning before 8am, please place all rubbish outside, on the driveway next to the road, to be cleared by local rubbish removals.
We have a solar geyser, which runs during the day when the sun is out. It is supplemented by hot water, if necessary from 6-8am and 6-8pm. If it has been a particularly wet or rainy day, there may not be a lot of hot water outside these times. Should you require hot water, you can press the red “Power” button on the GeyserWise panel in the garage. Water should be hot within 20 mins.
To keep our costs down (and pass those savings on to our guests) we kindly ask that you switch off lights and fans when not in use or leaving the house. We have loaded ample electricity, but should you run out for some reason, there is a small slip stuck onto the meter (in the garage). Use this to load a small amount, until more electricity can be bought. Please let us know if this happens so that we can arrange for more electricity to be loaded for your convenience.
Shutters & blinds:
We love the look of the shutters, and I am sure you will too, but we request that children do not touch the shutters or blinds (little hands tend to want to play with them)
Being a family home, we also have a no smoking policy (although you are welcome to smoke out front or back).
Doors and windows:
Living close to the mountain affords us with spectacular views and amazing sunsets, but we very rarely get some unwelcome guests - baboons… and they love to get in the house to grab fruit and make a mess. So please close all windows when you are not in your room and close them at night for safety. The windows upstairs, behind security shutters can be left open.
To ensure full safety of our guest’s belongings, we like to keep the front gate closed and to lock doors and windows when we are out and at night, as a precautionary measure. Whilst being one of the safest areas in town, we want to ensure every guest stay remains problem free, and this is just one small and simple thing we’re able to do to ensure that.
We understand that accidents happen. But we do ask that you please let us know when they do. Chances are we can fix them as effortlessly as possible which also means better chances of having your full security deposit returned too

My favourite part of visiting a new city is discovering what the locals love doing and eating and finding their favourite spots... like finding the hidden gem of a cave apartment in Santorini and being served the most exquisite greek yoghurt on the veranda overlooking endless turquoise water. Having dinner on the floor in bedouin style tents while diving in Dahab and cycling through Madagascar to find Lemurs (and eventually the love of my life...). I love travelling, but mostly the people I meet and the raw beauty of nature I discover off the beaten track.
We now live in one of the most beautiful towns in the world (really!) and I only discovered it when I moved here. I hope you discover it too - I have some tips!- so that your stay in Hermanus would be truly unforgettable and that you would long to return to this place of 'champagne air'.
