Romantic loft room with roof terrace & private bathroom (huge bath!) in characterful artist's house with small sitting room with french antique single bed can sleep 3rd person. Peaceful hide-away, 5 mins on bus to heart of Brixton Village.
7 mins walk Oval/Stockwell tube stations, which run you fast anywhere all over town. Stockwell line direct to Victoria, St Pancras (eurostar), Oxford Circus and Piccadilly. Oval tube takes you direct to the famous Borough Market & trendy Shoreditch/Hoxton.
We call this the Louise Bourgeois Loft Room, named after the french artist of that name. Stunning and very light all-white loft room, opening onto stunning roof terrace with views of the lush greenery and apple trees below in our garden. There is a small adjoining sitting room - if travelling as a couple you can use this as a sitting room to chill and if you are travelling with a child/third person, the antique french day bed is a great single bed. The loft room, bathroom and small sitting/single bedroom create a lovely private annexe within our house, and you can lock the door to the annexe when you come and go. Our house is an extremely peaceful place in contrast to buzzy Brixton 5 minutes by bus down the road. We live in a quiet, residential area, but with the advantage of being right by the Brixton Road, which is an artery with numerous bus routes running into and around central London.
You can walk out and eat locally - we have great, unpretentious places to eat in the neighbourhood. Di Lieto's italian café and bakery run by Luigi and his mum, serves large steaming plates of home made pasta, pizza and great coffee. At Van Gogh Café you can fine dine your way through their vegetarian/vegan menu. Good pubs locally are the Fentiman Arms or Canton Arms serving great British ales and excellent meals. "Under the radar" fine dining at Brunswick House Café in Vauxhall serves experimental, seasonal food in the beautiful surroundings of the Lassco salvage yard. This is a very original and wonderful place to enjoy a leisurely breakfast surrounded by garden sculptures and chandeliers...or a three course lunch or dinner. We love to eat, so can advise you on all kinds of eateries in London!
You will have a key to the Front Door (main house entrance) and a key to the loft room/annexe. You have sole use of the large "master bathroom", which is next to the doorway leading up the pretty white wooden staircase to the romantic all-white loft bedroom and roof terrace. And also the small adjoining sitting room with antique day bed which is a sofa or single bed, as you choose.
We offer all our guests a simple and healthy "help-yourself" breakfast (toast, coffee, tea, fruit juice etc) in the large family kitchen and ask you to put plates etc., in the dishwasher and clear up after you, as you would at home.
We ask that you do not take food/drinks (except water) upstairs into the annexe. You can use our family kitchen for breakfast and teas/coffees and heating things in microwave but please do not use the hob/oven and please clean up after yourselves as you would in your own home.
Breakfast time is the best time to catch us to ask questions about your visit, after that we go to work in our studio next door. We work next to the house so if you do need to ask a question or have an emergency, one of is around pretty much all day, most days. Or contactable by email/phone if not.

We are delighted to interact with our guests and give tips on great places to visit. We are particular keen on sharing with you the "under the radar" gems which may not feature in your guide book. We are self employed artist/designers who work in the studio adjoining the house.
Breakfast time is the best moment of the day to ask us questions and interact, after that we go to work but we can always be contacted by email or phone.
We are new to Airbnb so we welcome your requests and input - if you ask us nicely for something, we are more than likely to say yes!
Please note that we do not charge cleaning fees in order to keep costs as low as possible for you. Please can you leave the house as clean and as tidy as you found it on arrival.
This area is generally safe and is a quiet, residential neighbourhood. However we advise that young teenagers should probably be accompanied around town at night.
We have a dog called Juno and a cat called Mouse, who live in the main part of the house with us, and you will pass through these areas where we live with our animals so if you are very allergic this may be a problem. If you are allergic or scared of animals please advise us - we can move the animals into my work studio next door to the house, during your stay.
We want you to feel welcome in our home. We do have a couple of rules:
no other guests in the house apart from those booked in
quiet time between 10pm - 7 am in the house please
no eating or drinking (apart from water!) in the bedrooms please

I am a self employed artist and lighting designer; my husband William and I run our small family business making sculptural lighting, called Art Wall Lights, from the studio next door to the house.
We lived on the atlantic coast of SW France for 10 years, where we raised our 3 children. We recently returned to London as the eldest two have flown the nest which is why we now have rooms to offer on AirB&B. We both speak french, and I speak very rusty italian.
I love contemporary art, mid-century sculpture, photography and design. I also have a keen interest in allopathic/alternative medicine and nutrition so can point you in the direction of healthy activities and places to eat. My favourite way to explore a city is by foot or by bus, I enjoy talking to locals and discovering the hidden nooks and crannies of a city. I personally prefer this to visiting the traditional tourist "hot spots"which I often find crowded and hard to handle. Being an artist I am probably more interested in the artistic or unusual elements a city has to offer. If you are interested in the arts/culture and/or want to discover a slightly "alternative" side to London's places to visit and eat - we could be good hosts for you. We can also of course point you in the direction of the more traditional and popular tourist activities...National Gallery, Covent Garden, Tate Modern, Borough Market, London Eye, trendy buzzing Brixton Village, Shoreditch etc. etc.,.
My favourite place to eat in London is Brunswick House Café - superb seasonal and experimental food, it is a truly wonderful and original place to eat (you are eating in a beautiful Georgian building in the middle of Vauxhall roundabout, within a salvage yard!). A wonderful place to go for breakfast, lunch or dinner. If I could afford it I would eat there three times a day! I also like to eat in really good and inexpensive places which serve home-made, healthy food...and can point you in the direction of all sorts of great family eateries from the more classic but healthy burgers (Honest and Byron always keep the kids happy) to more unusual cafés like the local Eritrean restaurant near the house, where you eat with your fingers and wrap each mouthful of food in a special pancake made from teff flour - great for gluten free eaters as teff flour is gluten free! If you have food intolerances I can guide you to the right places and we can cater easily for you. I eat a gluten/dairy/sugar free diet...with the odd exception!
