Nestled past the head of Lake Ohau in the Southern Alps of New Zealand lies Huxley Gorge Station, surrounded by mountains and 7km from Lake Ohau. We are the last homestead in the Hopkins Valley. Huxley has amazing views, fantastic fishing, boating, tramping/hiking and is also the place to get away from it all and relax.
*We have closed for the New Zealand winter, will reopen some time in the spring*. Please note, we are off the beaten track so you need to read our listing carefully! Huxley Gorge Quarters is situated beside the homestead. It consists of 4 older, basic separate cabins, but with outside roof/veranda covering, for all but one bedroom. Bedroom one, a living and kitchen area, bedrooms 2 and 3 which inter-connect, then a separate bathroom with 2 toilets, and 2 showers. The kitchen is very simple but has a fridge, microwave, toaster, electric fry pan and a 3 burner gas hob, complete with all cooking utensils. The cabins are old and very simple, but have been painted, have new carpet so are comfortable, clean and tidy. They can be cold, (we do have oil heaters) but they are authentic shearing quarters and the location makes up for it. There is no TV or Internet so bring a good book to relax at nights with. Luxury we are not, we are however, a real taste of NZ high country station life.

Very happy to meet with guest and help with suggestions of where to go and what to do.
Huxley Gorge Station is located 54 kms away from either Twizel or Omarama. It will take you around 45 minutes to 1 hour to get here from the nearest town, including a gravel road of around 15kms, however you do not need a 4wd to get here. There are NO petrol stations or shops so you have to come prepared with all your food for your entire stay and at least 1/2 a tank of petrol.
Huxley Gorge Station is a working station and this must be respected at all times. Please consult with us if you would like to explore more within the station boundaries. Thank you!
