Two families (4 adults, 4 teens, and 1 kid) easily and comfortably, thoroughly enjoyed Marla and Steven's home at the Sundancer Dock! We loved the space, the privacy, the peacefulness, the huge covered balcony, the view right onto the ocean and the proximity to the water. During the day, we watched hummingbirds drink from the feeder and at night, we got some excellent photographs of tiny fruit bats (they're good; they eat the bugs!) emptying that same feeder. So cool! The air-conditioning was appreciated in the bedrooms and the up-scale kitchen enabled us to easily cook scrumptious meals. Some locals came by selling red snapper and prawns at a good price. We cooked them up; they were so delicious! There were plenty of towels, so don't bring any. The washing machine and dryer came in handy after a few wet days. The kids were thrilled about the wifi. We thoroughly appreciated the location of this villa because we specifically came to Roatan to dive and snorkel. The reef in front of the house was absolutely amazing; we saw almost everything (snorkelling) that we saw during our dives with Blue Island Divers located just a 2 minute walk down the beach!! I was immediately reassured when Marla shared that her whole extended family dives and Marla said, "as a parent and grandparent, I recommend them because we feel like they are one of the safest dive shops we have ever used". That statement finalized my decision to choose Marla's house. We couldn't agree more with Marla! Blue Island Divers made our dive experience so pleasurable, surely a lifelong memory!! Marla recommended the Salty Mango (owned by the dive shop) to eat at. Yes! Yum! She also recommended the Blue Bahia restaurant. Fantastic! That was almost impossible to find because their roadside sign was recently knocked down. Luckily, a helpful local showed us the way. We rented a vehicle for the week and that was a lovely luxury, but check if you need to drive standard (our van was). Driving in Roatan is only for crazy or brave people! The roads are narrow, busy, fast, full of potholes, and people on scooters weave in and out of traffic. Local taxis are plentiful. We really enjoyed visiting the sloth, monkey, parrot, macaw petting zoo. Again, the signs along the road were not great so it was hard to find. It is located at the end of the French Cay road. We got to go right into the animal's cages and interact with all of them!! Bottom line: Rent Marla and Steven's villa, you won't be disappointed! (... and in case you are visiting with an even bigger group than ours, they have a casita on the bottom floor). Vanessa, their property manager also gets 5 stars! She was super helpful, full of information, and quick to respond. Thanks for a great week! We can't wait to come back!!
