Our colorful home is more than a vacation rental. Though new to sharing our home on AirBnB, we are veteran travelers who prefer a home to a hotel. What makes a home away from home? A welcoming & well-kept house, comfy beds, privacy for all, a well-equipped kitchen, plenty of clothes hangers, WIFI & space to work if necessary, plus location (location, location): Across the street from Fashion Square, plus access to Scottsdale's free trolley; just a 35-minute walk to Scottsdale Stadium.
As our home is in a residential neighborhood, we ask our guests to be good neighbors to families around us. Quiet, please, after 10 p.m. Also, we are allergic non-smokers, so we ask that you please smoke outside, away from the doors, if you must.
Hi! We are Ken Kobré and Betsy Brill, based in San Francisco. We have been on the road of life together for 35 years. And we have traveled LOTS. We always prefer staying in a home than in a hotel.
Now that we are living part-time in Scottsdale, we have decided to share our home here with like-minded travelers.
Ken recently retired from teaching photojournalism and videojournalism at San Francisco State University. He continues to practice videojournalism independently and is completing a documentary about rosé wine. He is also an author and just completed the SEVENTH edition of his best-selling textbook, “Photojournalism: The Professionals’ Approach,” which Betsy edited and designed.
Betsy is an independent writer and editor. In addition to producing five previous editions of “Photojournalism” together, we have collaborated on many projects, including a year-long journey in through Egypt, India, Bangladesh, and Indonesia to compare different approaches to microfinance – banking for the poorest of the poor. Betsy wrote and Ken photographed “The Power of Small Change,” which eventually was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize.
We also wrote and photographed together in the Democratic Republic of Congo to support the tiny non-profit, HandUp Congo, in its efforts to raise the quality of life in the remote village of Lotumbe, and to improve the reach of medical care in Congo through the highly respected Université Protestante au Congo.
We have funded our apparent jet set lifestyle by renting our home in San Francisco when we are away. We can’t rent short-term in San Francisco, but when we are away for a month or more, San Francisco Corporate Rentals manages our home for us. Search Russian Hill Cottage House on the SF Corporate Rentals site for a peek. During our travels, we also bought a home in a little village in southern France. We have shared it independently for nearly 15 years when we are not there. Search “Our Place in Provence” on the Internet to tour that.
Now that we have the time to spend with our daughter in Scottsdale, we decided to buy a home here, and to share it through AirBnB while we come and go.
