The Aurora Lodge is a 2200 square foot houseboat located on Vee Lake, a 20 minute drive outside of Yellowknife.
The lodge has two rooms each with a queen size bed and a personal heater. The living area includes the kitchen, bar and lounge area with a fireplace. There is also a large deck perfect for aurora viewing.
Email to inquire about VIP Packages and activities (ice fishing, snowshoeing, skiing etc...)
NOTE: There are no showers in the winter months. We have an indoor dog.
The lodge is a houseboat; in the winter it freezes into the ice and you can drive right to the house, in the summer it is only accessible by canoe/kayak. It is closed for a period in October/November while the lake freezes and in April/May while it thaws. The location, 17 kilometers outside of Yellowknife, allows for amazing aurora viewing far from City light pollution.
The lodge is completely self-sufficient, relying on propane, wood pellet and wood fire for heat and appliances as well as solar and battery power for electricity. The hosts live upstairs and will be there to make sure all systems run properly and the guests can focus on enjoying their visit without worries.
Guests have access to entire main floor which includes rooms, kitchen, washroom and the living area which is centered around the fire place. Guests also have access to the upstairs deck to watch the aurora.

I am a nature lover and an outdoor enthusiast who has been off the grid as a Houseboater for 8 years. I enjoy paddling canoes, kayaks, power boats, swimming, fishing, hunting, hiking, camping and photography.
In winter, I enjoy snow shoeing, cross country skiing, kite skiing, ice fishing, snowmobiling.
I also love hosting and sharing the history, knowledge and true northern experience of living in the sub arctic.
