This is a pet-friendly cabin with additional fee of $50 per pet per stay (pay on arrival or leave on table with key on departure). You may wish to obtain groceries in Asheville, Brevard, Waynesville or Canton prior to accessing property, as we are approximately (as the crow flies) 11 miles/20-25 minutes from the latter two towns and 22 miles/40-45 minutes from downtown Asheville (30-35 minutes to West Asheville and Brevard). Access to property is via US 276 either via Brevard (30-35 minutes); Blue Ridge Parkway (seasonal, not best route in winter or with fog due to elevations) to US 276 north (from I-26/south Asheville, 30-40 minutes of sheer beauty); or I-40 (to 276 through Waynesville or exits to Canton, then to Bethel via 110, then to property via 276 south; 25-35 minutes, easiest route, especially in inclement weather). All major roads, including US 276, frequently scraped and salted in winter snow storms and generally kept open (except Blue Ridge Parkway which is most often closed in winter). Use appropriate caution in mountain terrain, near waterways and especially with local wildlife that considers this property their home. We have plenty of local wildlife, especially in spring, summer and fall, including black bear, deer, turkey, eagles, hawks, owls, various smaller critters (squirrels, chipmunks, field mice, opossum, raccoon, bobcats, fox, beaver, woodchuck, rabbit), and even snakes (including infrequent eastern diamondback rattlesnakes and copperheads, although much more commonly seen are black snakes, corn snakes, "ground" and other harmless snakes) and other reptiles. You may also occasionally hear or see coyotes, and may be lucky enough to glimpse the local brown trout in the creeks. Avoid close contact with all animals in environs, and do not leave open food or unsecured trash outside or out on counters in home, as this will encourage foraging and bad habits in our larger and smaller animals alike. Avoid wildlife-pet interaction by keeping pet(s) on leash or under strict voice command at all times when outdoors, especially if hiking in undeveloped areas in and around property. Always be aware of your footfalls and where and what you reach into or under while in this general area, as you would in any wilderness area. Carry in, carry out, nothing left behind. If you forgot hiking poles, daypack or backpack, ask us for loaner to use. Special golf packages and pricing may be available during your stay at Springdale Country Club, which is open to public with reservations. If you have questions about local happenings, restaurants, music venues, breweries, hiking or rafting options, or other adventures that you can't clarify pre-travel online or by phone, just ask us and we'll try to find out the details for you. We recommend making plans and reservations prior to arrival, as WiFi currently only available at owner home for emergency assistance, although Verizon cell service spotty but generally available in most homes on property (sometimes dependent on the weather gods); 4G Verizon cell service available just across US 276 at Camp Hope almost all times.
