Miles' Room is one of the newer bedrooms in the house. It has a comfortable queen-size bed, 2 huge windows and an attached full bathroom. Next to this room is a small room w/c serves as a library/sitting room but could easily be an extra bedroom.
This house was built in 1850. It is a light-filled, classic and grand Victorian Italianate built with bricks and hand-chiseled red sandstone which were abundant in this part of NY back in the 1800s. We put love and a lot of work into this structure to upgrade it with modern comforts of the new millennium. We made sure that the character of the home is still there but added contemporary design and functionality. The 3 newly renovated bathrooms will be shared one of these with a claw-foot tub attached to the master bedroom. On the 1st floor, there is a huge office/receiving room, a common sitting and dinning room, a common TV room w/ surround system and a show-stopper, fully-equipped kitchen. Your space, the master suite is located on the 2nd floor. A king size bed, sitting area, huge walk in closet, brand new master bathroom and the washer dryer are contained with in this side of the the house. There is a bonus room/library and 2 more bedrooms on this floor. We have 3 outdoor spaces, a deck with a ramp, a gorgeous garden, a long driveway with room to turn around, lots of parking spaces and a yard too big to believe that you are only a short walk to Potsdam downtown.
Upon arrival, guests may park on the drive way. The back door with a wreath will be open to welcome guests. The whole house is set up as a single family home and may be accessed by guests. There are 3 outdoor spaces that can be used and a ramp on the back deck for ease with luggage and strollers. The basement and garage are off limits please. Our lovely friend and co-host will be next door for questions and concerns.
The neighborhood is a college town so it may not be bustling like NYC but there are a lot of activities around for the whole family. The property is a 5 minute walk to downtown where you can find some neat restaurants, coffee shops, boutiques, movie theater and a park with water views to just relax, run or spread out. 1st Crush is my favorite to-go-to bistro. Maxfield's and B&B are 2 of the bars/pubs in town. There are Thai, Hawaiian, Cowboy, Tex-Mex, everything grilled as well as an excellent fine dinning restaurant called 1844 House are close by. IGA groceries store and Kinneys pharmacy is walking distance. There is also the Cooperative and Purple Rice (my favorite Asian food store with available yummy cooked lunch most days). It is literally 3 houses away from the Suny Potsdam main entrance and a moderately long walk or a short drive to Clarkson University . A short car ride to the neighboring town, Canton, brings you to 2 more universities, St.Lawrence University and SUNY Canton. Potsdam Hospital, a 2nd-level trauma center, is very near us if needed. There are a total of 4 golf courses in the surrounding towns but the closest one to this house is Potsdam Golf and Country Club (a 5 minute drive). If skiing is your thing, we are less than an hour away from Titus mountain and Big Tupper and 2hrs from White Face mountain in Lake placid. There are plenty of opportunities to discover upstate NY when you are in the heart of this town but minutes away from the majestic nature surrounding the area.
Some rooms may need to share bathrooms if the guest home is fully booked. Requests for parties, functions, meetings or reunions may be accommodated after a conversation
with the host. No pets nor smoking allowed inside the house. The basement and detached garage us off limits to the guests. Enjoy and treat the home as if your own.

I am an surgical nurse who has 2 young kids and a puppy. I have moved around a lot for the past 15 years so I know the importance of a great place to lay your head down when you are tired and away from home. I am from the Philippines, worked as an OR nurse in England and met my American husband there. I recently discovered my passion for design and decorating a house, cooking and gardening. Busy with a new home in Montana, pet and children, adding our new guest home in Potsdam, NY keeps me up my toes but inspired at all times. I love pretty stuff but I do not want to overspend. My younger brother lovingly coined a name for me lately, "S-Martha Stewart. I believe that in a home, a vacation, any purchase, or life in general, there is a balance and satisfaction gained when you are happy, comfortable and good-looking but did not lose an arm and a leg getting there. Happy travels....
