Where do we begin? Our stay here has been the best experience throughout our travels in Southeast Asia. Laurent and his wife were so down to earth and accommodating. They are eager to share their community with travelers, we learned so much about Thai culture and customs from our short stay with them. The camping aspect itself was also fantastic, everything one needs- they have several tent sizes and it includes a sleeping mat, sleeping bags, pillows, killer sunsets over the valley and cool foggy mornings to wake up to. They can also prepare amazing traditional Thai meals for an additional fee or you can bring your own food to grill as well. The location was actually easy to find if you put "Fuang Fah Camping" into your map search engine and trust the directions. It's about 45 minutes from the summit of Doi Inthanon. You'll pass through a small village and take a turn into an even smaller village to find it, so its definitely off the beaten path but thats what makes it so wonderfully peaceful. The final 100 meters or so are a little challenging to tackle via motorbike, but they are working on paving the driveway to make it easier. We are already trying to plan our next trip to Northern Thailand so we can stay here again and for longer this time :)
We had an amazing, although short stay at Laurent's place. This is perfect for anyone looking for a unique experience on a budget. Accommodation is basic but we had everything we needed. Tents were good quality, we had no issues despite the rain. Laurent and his wife were fantastic hosts, and we had a great evening with them. I plan on visiting again!
Laurent has an absolutely beautiful family and home. The views are stunning and the family really make you feel welcome and allow you to treat their house as your own. I would suggest arriving before sunset because the road up to Laurent's house is a little rough. Once you get to the house, the welcoming smiles of Laurent and his family and the delicious homemade Thai dinner make the journey so worthwhile. The tent is a cosy fit for two. If you want to visit Doi Inthanon national park, Laurent's home is less than an hour's ride away which is pretty perfect. Thanks Laurent :-)
I have been using Airbnb for all my numerous travel. Laurent will definitely be one of my most memorable hosts. With his wife, they are extremely kind, very easygoing and know how to make you feel home. We felt more like visiting a friend... We were about to add a night just to hang out with them. The location is extraordinary, and the amenities are as advertised and more then enough. If you need anything more in your stay, then camping is not for you ;) You will come for the scenery and stay for the hosts believe me. PS: watch out for the black dog. He is a pickpocket in disguise
