Rustic and funky waterfront retreat in the pine canopy with separate entrance, half bath (full bath with hot shower downstairs), use of canoe, grounds, dock, decks, light kitchen use, and cottage amenities. Woodsy and a somewhat secluded location, yet convenient to Augusta off of Route 17. Ideal location for a stop going to or from Acadia National Park or the Common Ground Fair. Enjoy a campfire in the evening. Your hostess offers free Yoga classes.
Spacious queen bedroom in the pine canopy with gorgeous views of the water and use of canoe. Half bath is partitioned off from the spacious bedroom, but is not a separate room. This is not an air conditioned space, but being at the water's edge and in the tree canopy brings some natural cooling. The stairway to the upstairs is long at 16 steps. It is not for the faint of heart: not suitable for those who have trouble climbing stairs, are afraid of heights, or children. But the reward is being in the tree canopy with gorgeous views of the water. Your experience is best described by Katy, our 2016 caretaker:
Nestled down a trail of soft pine needles and surrounded by evergreen trees, lies a place in the minds of many passer byers. Most have spent one night here, sometimes two. It has been a certain reprieve for all who enter. Each life greeted with warm hospitality and offered a sit on the deck overlooking the last rays of the sun hitting the pond below. A welcomed sit it is for folks, as they have tired from their travels. Many have seen some spectacular sights along their journeys here, yet this quiet little abode with the swinging pendulum of hemlock limbs, lulls them to a peaceful state away from the noises of the world. Gazing at the waters, tensions lift and faces soften. Contemplation of this place and perhaps even their lives lay in the silence. Upon entering their room, they all smile widely. They climb the outdoor stairs and “Ooooh” s, can be heard as they express their initial reactions to the panoramic window views of the embracing pines.
There are many different types of people that come here. Couples looking to get away from city life. Friends on excursions. Folks heading to the local fairs. Even the occasional business man needing a place to lay his head. Peoples from all over the world—Germany, France, Australia, China. Almost all have been or are going to incredible Acadia National Park. All these diverse people however, come together over the breakfast table. Differences that normally bring separation, are actually what draws the lives together! These people are most generally well-traveled folks and love to share their stories and to learn about the lives of the locals. Upon initial greeting, people perhaps immediately pick out the differences in each other, as is human tendency in a new setting. But by the end of breakfast, the similarities are what is remembered and has created a unique bond between these people who live all over the world. You see, we all enjoy a nice meal. We all like to break out into smiles. We all enjoy the feeling of safety and peace. We are all delighted when we find those common threads that exist in all of humanity, crossing the barriers of ocean waters, city lights, to skies of only star lights, we have more in commonality than not.
You will have a separate entrance up the long stairway, and a half bath up there, which is partitioned off from the spacious bedroom but is not a separate room. There is no A/C in the cottage. Downstairs you may use the full bath which has a hot shower. You may store food in the fridge and do some light food preparation. You may use the living room, decks, dock, sunroom, grounds, dock, and canoe.
Canoe is launched from a small sandy beach.
Use of the water, stairway, and canoe is at your own risk.

This is not an air conditioned space, but it is cooler at the water's edge and up in the tree canopy than in town.

Household water is from a newly drilled well. Drinking water is supplied.

You may encounter mosquitoes or other insects due to the woodsy location.
Togus Pond has a soft bottom and lily pads and other plants.
