My house is right on the ocean. It has spectacular views of the Meso American Barrier Reef, the second longest barrier reef in the word. It is located 4 miles north of San Pedro in a quiet, safe neighborhood, far from the hustle and bustle of town but within walking distance of charming restaurants, beach bars and a well-stocked little grocery store.
Staying here is an enchanting experience. You will be living in a house, not a condo or hotel, with all the comforts of home. Our caretaker Rubio, lives with his wife Iris and their son Luis in a little casita in the back of the property. You have your privacy but Rubio is there if you need anything. He can help set up the kayaks and show you the ideal spots for snorkeling. He will even get fresh coconuts from the trees for you. My manager Mary at Caye Management is available to book tours or solve any problems that might come up. My neighbor Geni at Coral Divers will take you diving, snorkeling or fishing. His boats are anchored right next to our dock. He will even barbecue your catch when you return from fishing. His crew is all PADI certified.
GETTING THERE: Direct flights to Belize City International Airport leave from Miami, Dallas, Houston and Atlanta. From there you can take a 15 minute flight on a small plane to San Pedro airstrip on Mayan Air or Tropic Air. The staff at Caye Management can book it for you. Or you can take a 30 minute taxi ride to the water taxi terminal and take the water shuttle to San Pedro, an hour and a half ride. Caye Management will arrange for you to be met in San Pedro and taken by boat to the Tree House. This is included in the rental. The 9% Belize hotel tax is also included.
This unique octagonal house sits at tree top level right at the water’s edge on a quiet stretch of white sand beach. The Tree House is the ideal spot for a romantic getaway, or for two couples or a small family. The fully equipped modern kitchen will inspire you to prepare fresh caught fish and tropical fruit as you enjoy the ocean view. Both bedrooms have queen size beds. The living room is a comfortable place to relax and look out at the ocean. It has a couch which folds out to a queen size bed. There is a 26 inch flat screen TV and DVD player, and a land line. There is high speed Internet. There is twice weekly maid service. This unique eco-friendly house perched atop a 20 foot concrete pedestal was designed to withstand hurricanes and cause minimal impact on environmentally sensitive locations. The octagonal design and floor to ceiling windows catch the ocean breezes so that our air-conditioning is seldom needed. The wide veranda affords a spectacular view of the Great Barrier Reef. The vaulted ceilings and exposed beams create a sense of space. We are committed to providing a green environment. Our water supply comes from rain water stored in a cistern on the property. Because we are dependent on the rain for our water supply we ask guests to conserve water in the dry season. However, we never run out of water. The caretaker monitors the level in the cistern and we have water trucked out from town if necessary. I am a lap swimmer and so I dredged out a swim area in front of the house which is perfect for swimmers. You can take the kayaks out to the reef and snorkel. Since they are sit-on-tops, it's not hard to get back in from the water.
What our guests have said about the Tree House:
“This house is an absolutely wonderful retreat for those who are looking for a complete getaway from everything. The house was very welcoming and extremely well appointed with modest but tasteful decor. The location was perfect for our needs. It was a bit of a distance from town but had a small convenience store nearby for our immediate needs. This is actually what we liked best about it...we felt away from it all but if we ran out of something, we weren't too far from a store.”

“I just returned from staying at the Tree House with 3 of my friends. We very much enjoyed the town and the house. I liked all of the small details, such as candles in all of the room, lanterns, an iPod dock, and kayak. The location is secluded but transportation was easy with the water taxi. Make sure you get a breakfast burrito from the man who comes by on the beach in the morning. Also, we had a blast with Gene and Randy, the neighbors will take you on a private water outing!”

The Red Treehouse was perfect for my wife’s and my stay in late April/early May 2014.. Once we landed and retrieved our luggage, Armando met us and took us to a market to get a few things for our stay and then delivered us by water taxi to the dock in front of the beach house. Rubio, the Treehouse caretaker was waiting on the dock with his wheelbarrow and delivered our luggage to the house and provided a brief overview of the property. After settling in, we decided to “explore” up the beach. A short walk away was a nice beach bar at a nearby resort. We enjoyed some delicious seafood ceviche and enjoyed our first taste of Belikin, the local beer! Our stay was wonderful in so many ways, with the tropical breeze always blowing, the lovely people we met, and the super food! Despite the many activities and excursions to chose from, our greatest enjoyment came from just relaxing on the deck enjoying the cool breeze, watching the hummingbirds feed and watching people traveling back and forth along the beach trail. We did follow others’ advice and utilized Coral Divers for our “destination” get-away. Snorkeling the Hol Chan/Shark Ray Alley and touring the Mayan Ruins were two amazing trips. Genie, the owner of Coral Divers, and his great staff, were all so helpful and friendly.
The house is located about four miles north of San Pedro which challenged us a little, but overall beach bars/restaurants were within walking distance as was the Mata Grande grocery. We did rent bikes for the week but due to the sandy beach-side path we found it was easier in most instances to just walk to where we wanted to go. Like so many others have mentioned in previous reviews, we anxiously waited the call of the Burrito man out front in the mornings. What a great way to start the day! The house had everything we needed for our 10 day stay. Because of the dry season, it was necessary to use water conservatively but we followed the custom of others and only once was there a need to refill the cistern.
We were welcomed from day one by a great family with Rubio, Iris, and little Luis (what a charmer!). Rubio and Iris treated us to a freshly caught supper of grouper and ceviche (his is THE BEST) on our 2nd day! Iris, too, was a wonderful cook and we learned how to make the ceviche and coconut rice. Rubio is a huge asset to the Treehouse!!
We decided well before our departure that we would return to Belize, and if the timing is right, we are returning to the Treehouse.

My wife Julie and I thoroughly enjoyed our week at the "Tree House" on Ambergris Caye. The house was right on the beach with breathtaking views and a wonderful breeze off the ocean. A small grocery is only a 10 minute walk away. The caretaker, "Rubio" was very friendly and helpful. We could not have asked for a more relaxing spot to unwind and enjoy our vacation.
