Helen started out with many positive comments, then she proceeded to list a number of suggestions for improvement. This list contains comments that i had not heard before and i will adopt some of them. Her list appears to include a mix of suggestions on improving the place to an optimum level (many items could be included here, no doubt, but one would have to pay lots more) and items that she did not herself like. I could not tell which was which, which makes it difficult to respond to her comments in a fair way. Nevertheless, the appearance of the place is clearly shown in the many pictures that appear on the website and if she preferred a double to a single bed or different type of furniture, I do not know why she booked my place, which clearly shows two single beds, as well as the rest of the furniture and kitchen equipment. Taking a good look at the pictures of the place provides a potential renter with all the answers.
However, if Helen objects to the tiny possibility of running into a member of the household outside her unit and my calling her a couple of times per month to inquire about the temperature in her room, as it is terribly hot in Ottawa, she should reassess her suitability for many shared rentals. You can get privacy, but isolation is not available here. I expect guests to be willing to engage in productive communication on rental- specific issues, which resolves 90% of issues.
I was happy to see that Helen cleaned her rooms very nicely and i gave her a good evaluation, but later, i was startled to have the coffee table fall apart in my hands when i moved it. She never mentioned having a problem with the table.
In conclusion, the rating of "3" that Helen gave to her stay in my place is
too low and the rating of "5" i gave her is too high. I do tend to give higher than normal ratings as i tend to not be judgmental.
