Wayne, You obviously have no idea what to expect from a classic Victorian home, and I will address your undeserved negative comments as they appear. As you mentioned, YES, I certainly deserve an APOLOGY after our generosity in allowing such a large party to stay there, and accommodating ALL of your requests, including a discount for your extra people. You had a GREAT value for a such a large party--try finding a hotel for 6 people plus one teen at that price!!!! I have NEVER received such negative feedback, as my former tenants will attest with their excellent reviews. I am a SUPERHOST. I see your airbnb experience shows that you have only stayed in one other place, and it was a studio with just the two of you...you really need more experience before you give such a negative value judgment of our lovely home. First you say, it needs TLC in some areas, then you proceed to give it a scathing review. I will attempt to here educate you.
Our home is spacious, well lit, beautiful, warm and welcoming in a gorgeous neighborhood. Didn't you read the description? It was build in 1890, has vintage character and the furnishings are comfortable and clean. Those furnishings that are not antique have been lovingly collected and handed down from our family collections--obviously you expected a sterile hotel experience for your large party.
I launder all the sheets, nothing is ever left unwashed! Bedding is not fresh? Are you kidding? My husband and I PERSONALLY spend hours scrubbing and cleaning that place until it is pristine. The tub is spotless--it is an AUTHENTIC cast iron tub, installed to fit the character of the house. When scrubbed that does not come up spotless white, like a modern bath. It has shower curtains rather than a door. That is how they are built, shower doors would not fit in a cast iron tub, FYI.
More absurdly, we have never heard of a complaint as to scaring a teen with the "skull bookend in the bedroom", an art piece which was my son's. He used it as a prop in "Hamlet". And your complaint, "there are no antiques, just thrift store": There are many antiques in the house--and many turn of the century collectables. You obviously have no concept of their artistic value--'what did you expect? Ikea? We would never use impersonal furnishings in our home. Our personal photos are regarded by others as "charming" and 'homey". It is our home, not a hotel--we want others to feel welcome as friends. You missed the point.
Most tellingly of your ignorance, you referred to our artwork as being from a thrift store--my husband's family were artists and art teachers who taught in some of the top educational institutions of the US, and their work has appeared in museums and collections throughout the US. They did most of the pieces. Our other pieces are collected from our friends who are likewise professionals in the art world, teaching at respected Bay Area Universities.
Lastly, you left your multiple JUNK FOOD containers in garbage containers the kitchen, instead of emptying them, when it was clearly noted that the garbage bin is around the side of the house--we assumed this was an oversight, so we overlooked it, as my husband said you were courteous when he met you. Why didn't you tell him you were dissatisfied so we could remedy your complaints?
I want to amend my review of you--please don't stay with us again--you missed the joy, playful spirit, and beauty of our warm and personal home. Next time, I recommend you choose an impersonal hotel and pay the full price for 7 people.
