Simple Abundance - a versatile and roomy open concept cabin, with comfy couches, a dining table for feasting, and lots of space to cook, play games or sort through your berries. A private tub looks out into the forest, and the woodstove warms you up in no time - a great space to unwind.
The summer days are long and wonderful here, and it’s nice to come back to space that’s yours - private, warm and cozy.
When so many of us first came to live at Tow Hill, the epitome of luxury was a warm bath, the quiet, the feeling of being nestled in the forest, and the simple pleasures of a cup of coffee or a hearty meal of local food after a long day of exploring....These cabins are Tow Hill local living - rustic but with enough amenities to make your stay filled with simple pleasures. Each cabin has been built as much from salvaged and recycled materials as possible. They come equipped with all you need to enjoy an independent stay. Your cabin has a place for cooking, a fridge, an eating area, utensils and dishes, linens and towels and basic cleaning supplies. Your cabin has a tub with a view of the forest, and a loft area for sleeping (steep stairs), and an open concept design for the main space. There is a separate bathroom with tub and sink.
- you have a full oven and four element stove
- the open concept living area is roomy, with an island and dining table, a love seat and couch as well as a futon couch, and a large dining table
- it's a rustic cabin floor! easy to sweep and wear your shoes. But if you'd like to leave your shoes at the door, roll out the rug and warm your toes.
- the room is warmed by a great, large old wood stove. Only use two or three logs at a time and you'll be toasty.
Each cabin has its own private area as well as shared outdoor space. There’s a small garden with herbs and depending when you come, your own greens. :) You have your own outdoor toilet - - we’ll show you how it works. Bring that headlamp! And get ready to enjoy the sounds around you.
If you have any physical challenges, let us know. We'll help you decide whether this space is a fit for you.

We’ll make sure you’re settled in and answer your questions - and we’ll value your privacy.
A few days before you arrive, we'll set up a check in time (3pm or after) to meet and show you around.
The cabins are on land 3 minutes walk to the ocean or to the Sangan river. The Chown River is also nearby. Enjoy many beach and forest walks, surfing, food gathering, bird watching... - You’ll be staying in the woods, on a small local drive. Think of these cabins as a blend of 'cabins with perks' and 'staying with your friends in the woods' - You’ll be using an outhouse, and almost everything is salvaged - so there won’t be high thread count sheets, or shiny bathtubs and the wonderful well water is drinkable and also has tannins. And the hot water soak at the end of our long summer days will feel amazing; there’s plenty of room to dry your mushrooms, or sort your berries or curl up with a book. - Use wilderness camping principles in and around the cabins - Keep your food in containers, outside and inside, leave it as you found it - and you’ll find you’ll enjoy our stay when you arrive too! - There are cabins and neighbours, so the cabins are a quiet zone— The beach is close by for bonfires (check if there are fire warnings) or social gatherings. - Days are long in the summer - at the peak, there’s some light until 11:30 pm. And, when it’s dark, it’s very dark. Definitely bring a flashlight or a headlamp. - You are in a rainforest, and rain is a wonderful part of your experience. There are no bad days if you have a good waterproof coat (pull out your old yellow rubber) and some good old galoshes, and you’ll be good on any kind of day. - There’s plenty to do in Tow Hill - for days! (or lifetimes). Stock up in town before you come, and you may not need to go in! - enjoy the no -wi-fi experience, and know that if you need to get connected you can walk down to the nearby bridge and get reception, or call home while you take your evening stroll. The library has free wi-fi, and you can sip a coffee in Old Masset or Masset and surf the internet. - hot water is 'on demand' - it takes a couple of extra beats and is worth the wait!
The water pump is housed in this cabin, so, while the pump is in an insulated room, you will hear the pump for short periods of time If you are very sensitive to sound this may not be for you.
This cabin is heated by a wood stove - Make sure you’re comfortable with operating one, or consider our other cabin. Firewood is available for purchase.
Some pets are a fit for this cabin. If you 'd like to bring a dog, please let us know about her/ him when you write us a message, and we'll figure out if it's a fit.

We live in a beautiful place! And I remember how exciting it was when I first got here, and, how there were many questions I had about coming to a semi-remote area. It was nice to be welcomed by the kind stranger who became one of my best friends, and to have a place to start off my explorations. Welcome to Haida Gwaii! :)
