Nant y Ne ( 'Stream of Heaven') is perfect if you love hill walking and a sense of isolation and adventure (though historic Ruthin is only 15 minutes away!). You walk straight out of the door and onto the hills with stunning views across to the coast and Snowdonia.
A great place for romantic couples, groups or families.
It's a two bedroomed cottage, but with a sofa bed in one of the 3 lounges and our ultra-cool glass and cedar EcoPod next door, it comfortably sleeps 6 and will stretch to 8.
Nant y Ne is a 16th Century drover's cottage situated high on the slopes of the Clwydian Range just beneath the famous Moel Famau mountain and Offa's Dyke path.
The cottage has a modern kitchen with an Aga, a well- appointed walk in shower room and two lounges downstairs. There is also a separate dining room.
Next to the cottage is a contemporary Ecospace studio with floor to ceiling glass so you can take full advantage of the near-360 degree views. It has a shower/toilet, lounge with TV, mini-kitchen (hob and fridge) and a separate office/study. It's an amazing space with a magical feel about it.
Both the cottage and the studio have central heating supplemented by log burners.
Outside, there is a garden and a large paddock which you are free to use.
The hills surrounding the property are public land with no limitations in terms of rights of way. There are several well marked public paths/bridleways close by at the back of the cottage, although these tend to be very quiet.
There is parking for at least 2 cars on the drive outside the cottage and plenty of room for a 3rd vehicle under the trees just downhill from the Ecospace studio.
Small children will need careful supervision as there are number of potential hazards. The gardens are terraced (i.e. there's a drop!) and stairs in both buildings are open-plan. Log burners get very hot and do not have fireguards fitted, so we don't feel the property is going to be suitable for curious toddlers and unsupervised young children (although we brought one up here!).
The water supply comes straight from a stream on the hillside above the cottage and is sterilised using an ultraviolet system located in the utility room. Water pressure is usually OK but can drop in the summer.
No mains drains up here sorry! A septic tank deals with the waste so PLEASE don't flush any large items down the loo and remember to use a non-biological washing up liquid and washing powder. We'd recommend you scrape fat/oil etc into the bin provided rather than pouring it down the sink where it will just congeal and block the drains.
I'm a practicing surgeon with a frenetic life and Nant y Ne was our perfect escape in which to chill out and enjoy the peace of the Clwydian hills. We've renovated another property nearby and moved there permanently. so its great that we are now able to share the beauty of this very special place with others.
