My place is close to the city center and restaurants and dining. My place is good for families (with kids).
Joglo House 3 Bedrooms in Kerobokan with Pool (Kubu Ampo) is strategically located in North Kerobokan, a nice location easily to reach important tourist destination such as Denpasar - the capital of Bali province - or Seminyak - the most insterested touristic place in Bali. It is also close to Canggu area - a new favourite area especially for surfers -; it is about 15 minutes to the Canggu Club. On recent normal traffic, the Ngurah Rai International Bali Airport is about 1 hour driving. The area is actually chosen by local people to build their new homes in Denpasar to ease them to work. This is the reason this home is built here: guests staying here can feel Balinese touch and experience.
Kubu Ampo is derived from two words: Kubu and Ampo. Kubu is Balinese word for hut. In Balinese mind, Kubu is a very simple structure owned by a very poor family. It is a Balinese polite way to respect others. In fact, usually a 'kubu' is placed in the middle of rice-field for farmers to take rest. 'Ampo' is Balinese word for white clay - unfertile soil. On the wet season such soil is muddy like glue; while on the dry-season it is as hard as stone. The famers named this area Tanah Ampo to indicate the area is not fertile for rice-field. So, literally Kubu Ampo is 'hut at clay'. The soil where the home stands is definitely not fertile and therefore is very difficult to grow plantations. However with a serious hard-work, the land has been changed to become verdant and fresh. Although this home is definitely not luxurious (it is made not luxurious) as what a villa can offer, but it is reliable to save your cost to get an enjoyable and memorable Bali holiday.
Many Bali visitors, especially the repeaters, are recently questioning the price of Bali private accommodation. It is getting higher and higher. Considering this, the Kubu Ampo is built to answer. Its price is the best on its class.
Standing on a local community houses, Kubu Ampo is a safe and secured accommodation. With its three bedrooms (all king sized beds) and swimming pool within large verdant garden, the home is recommended for a extended family holiday.
This nice Bali etnic and rustic home is ready to assist you to get a nice but affordable Bali holiday.
This Javanese style house was brought from Purwoasri Village, some steps to the Alas Purwo (Old Forrest) in Banyuwangi district, East Java. This old teak house was owned by Pak Atmo (Mr Atmo), a prosperous trader lived there in 1950's. Years after his period, for economic reason, his descendants can not maintain it again. Finally it was used to stay buffaloes and goats, although the quality of the timber used is still good and should be reasonable to be a nice home. With a hard-work, the house then moved to Bali. After arriving at the area, the carpenters re-erected it again as it was in Java, certainly with some Balinese touches.
Bali has a religious concept of Tri Hita Karana - three importants way to reach the happiness. Human being is just very small particle of the universe. People can produce furnitures, but definitely can not make wood or timber. People can produce metal, but definitily can not make iron-sand. It means that human being is totally dependent on the environt. If they can not maintain the environtment well as is, then they will certainly harvest badness in the future. We have to never throw just a small piece of wood as possible. We have to re-cycle anything to be new functionable things. Consequently the house is styled as 'old-made'. Yes, it looks old.
Jokingly the house is called 'Umah Lulu' means 'house made of rubbish' (Lulu is Balinese word for rubbish). Yes, Kubu Ampo is made of timber left by others, old furniture left by others, and some parts of the floor use old tiles from 1970-s left by others. Those all 'second-hand' products are combined with modern touch such as water closet, dining facilities, or the pool.
Stand on large enough land, the villa boasts its verdant garden with fruit plantations such as kind of bananas, mangoes, mangosteen, jack-fruits and guava. This is to show the visitors that human being is totally dependent on nature.
As the Javanese house commonly does, the central point of the house is the Soko Guru (four main column) made of strong teak. This Soko is surrounded by four rooms: 3 bedrooms and one room for media-entertaining room, and a large veranda for sitting area and dining area. This veranda is totally opened to view the large garden and pool. This makes the house is strongly related with the nature, even with no border. Guests may feel the air breezes and listen to the voice of leaves or crickets or frogs at night. Again, this is to show that human being can not be away from environtment.
Usually life of Indonesian ethnic are 'centralized' in one spot: bedrooms, living and sitting area, cooking and dining area. It is also done here. The main house is for 3 king sized bedrooms with private bath-rooms, one room is for media-entertainment, and the edge of the open style veranda is for kitchen. All is packed in one structure. Two bedrooms have private semi-open style bathroom with showers, with tropical garden. When sitting at the closet, we can feel the air and look at the cute garden. When showering, even we can look at the sky.
All four rooms at the main structure are air-conditioned. Although the house is made of ex-used material, the visitors must feel happy with it by the air-conditioning, at least they can sleep peacefully. In the case the number of guests are extended, the entertainment room can be converted to bedroom #4. If there are still some more young people who wish to sleep in a simple way (open room), the Bale Kebo -large pool bale- can also be used as 'emergency room' with some mattresses on floor. All is at guests' own plan.
The kitchen is located on one corner of the main house. It is fully equipped with good cooking facilities. The dining table is made of thick wood with 8 chairs made of wood from shipwreck.
The home boasts it large verdant garden, surrounded by public houses in the west and south, and bamboo bushes in the north, rice-field in the east. The style of garden is tropical with real fruit plantations such as bananas, mangoes, mangosteen, guava and jack-fruits. If it is a lucky day, visitors can enjoy such fresh fruits from the trees.
The central point of the large garden is the swimming pool. With size of 8 X 4 meters, the pool is comfortable for all visitors. The over-flow pool is unique as its 6 water-inlets are placed 60cm above the water surface like fountains. This is to bring the memory of the visitors to the Tirta Empul Temple in Tampak Siring, where the Hindu people from all Bali come for holy bathing. When staying at this home, sound of falling water (from the fountains) can be listened in the morning, at noon and at the dusk, as the three moments to read the Hindu mantram Puja Tri Sandya prayers. Again, the home is made to bring the memory of the visitors to nature and its Great Creator.
On the large garden, there are two smaller structures: Klumpu and Bale Kebo. In the past (about 80 years ago) the Klumpu was a Jineng - a big rice-barn. Then the grand-son of the first owner changed it to be a Klumpu - a smaller rice barn. Then finally it was thrown as fire-wood. The timber was saved and re-erected here at this garden. It is nice to be a post to relax. The Bale Kebo was a buffalo-stay in Java. It was re-erected here with some new touch. Now it is a large Bale Benong located next to the pool. For extended number of visitors, this structure can be converted into 'open' room with mattresses on floor.
Kubu Ampo is powered by PLN (Government Electric Cowner is mpany) at 7,700VA. On normal situation, this power is enough for such cute home. In the case of power failure, the home is backed-up with a generator with enough power to support the home.
For daily consumption (cleaning and cooking), tap water is supplied from Kubu Ampo's private well. However, for drinking it is recommended to purchase Aqua drinking water from supermarket nearby.
Perfect for a small family, the home has everything you need from high chair, baby cot and toddler-safe cutlery to pool toys. The home is expected to become your Bali sweet home away from home.
The villa is maintained by smiling Balinese staff. The house-keepers come to do house keeping and ground cleaning service for 2-3 hours/day. The garden and pool attendant comes 3 times a week on Tuesday, Thursday dan Saturday for half day working hours. The house-keepers will do the room cleaning when you order them to do so or when you leave a note of 'please clean the rooms' on the note box. If not, it is assumed that you do not need such service but do not want to be disturbed. This is extremely important to keep your highest privacy.
To ease you in organizing your daily activity, a list of important information, from taxi, dining places until Bali interesting place to visit, is available. In the case you need to get taxi, the house-maid will help you to call for the nearest one. In the case you need to have a stand-by car with driver, staff will also assist you for this.
Truly your home-away-from-home, Kubu Ampo will embrace you with its character and charm. It’s no surprise that guests are eager to return year after year.
