The guest house is located on a hill. Therefore, the use of a 4-wheel drive vehicle to access the property is a must! For those who are not renting a vehicle, guest accomodations are only about 700 meters from the main beach road, only about a 10 minute hike with a few steep places along the way.
By accepting a booking with The Mango Walk, you agree to the below listed House Rules.
Safety and Security: Anywhere in the world one stays, it is always advisable to keep doors locked at all times, keep valuables locked in the in-room safe, and carry as little cash and credit cards as possible when venturing out. Only carry a copy of your passport and never leave valuables unattended. Always be aware of your surroundings and take a taxi at night unless driving a rental car.
Transportation: A 4-wheel drive vehicle is required for transportation up and down the hill leading to the Mango Walk property.
Parking: One parking space is available for cabin guests and one for house guests. Additional parking may be available upon request.
Unexpected guests: A full guest count should be included in the booking total. Any unexpected guests arriving at the time of check-in may be charged a 25$ initial setup fee plus any additional per person charges that may apply. House, over 4 persons and Cabin over 2 persons will be charged a 15$ per person per night rate. Any additional persons above the maximum of 6 for the house and 3 for the cabin may be turned away.
Visitors: For the safety and security of everyone, we ask that you do not invite locals up to the property. Also, use caution and wisdom when asked where you are staying.
Pets: The Mango Walk property is home to more than one family and several dogs. Therefore, we cannot allow guests or visitors to bring other pets onto the property. These dogs are used to having people around due to the number of tours conducted on the property weekly. Please allow us to introduce you to them and absolutely let us know if you have any questions or concerns about them.
Toilets: We apologize for the inconvenience, but paper or feminine products of any kind must be placed in the waste can and not flushed down the toilet.
Kitchen Facilities: Guests are welcome to use kitchen facilities and are expected clean up after meals to avoid attracting unwanted pests. Please wash, dry and put away all dishes prior to checking out and do not leave food out on the counters that could attract critters. If you need to leave food behind, please leave it in the refrigerator.
Refrigerator settings: Please do not adjust the settings on the refrigerator. Due to the hot climate, the refrigerator has to work extra hard and lowering the setting can cause it to overwork, freeze over and cease to function. Please use care to not overload the shelves. If you require additional space, please let us know and we can make arrangements for use of an additional refrigerator.
Garbage: Owners will empty trash once weekly and per client requests. Compostable, organic material may be discarded in the forest. Rinsing containers before discarding them will help to keep odors and critters at bay until the trash is removed. Please do not leave food items out on the countertop as it will attract unwanted pests. Prior to check-out, tie up garbage bags and/or remove them.
Towels and linens: At the beginning of your stay, each person is provided a clean bath towel, pillow and bed linens. If at any time during your stay you would like an extra pillow, blanket, or a change of sheets or towels, please don’t hesitate to let us know. The bath towels should not be used for the beach. One beach towel is provided per guest. Upon check out, it is not necessary to strip the beds, simply leave all sheets/bedding on the beds.
Laundry: For sanitary reasons, we ask that you allow our staff to wash the sheets/towels, etc. If you have a need for personal laundry, please let us know and we will pick it up, launder it for you and return it to you dry and folded. Due to our high volume of laundry needs, we cannot open the laundry room for guests, but we are happy to do it for you. We allow one free load per week and additional loads are 15$ per load.
Beach sand: The outside shower and/or hose are always available to our guests to wash off any beach sand before entering the house or using the showers in the guest rooms. Please make use of them to avoid the discomfort of sand underfoot or a clogged shower. No sand should be left in the showers.
Use of Jacuzzi: The lid may be heavy and we are happy to remove it for you. Glass drinking glasses are not permitted in Jacuzzi or surrounding area for safety reasons and plastic glasses can be provided, if needed. An outside shower is provided to remove excess beach sand, dirt, oils, etc. before entering the jacuzzi. This should allow it to remain available for use throughout your stay, avoiding the necessity of draining it for cleaning or shocking it with strong chemicals. The jacuzzi is not available as a hot tub and due to the length of time it can take to cool down, we ask that our guests please not raise the temperature.
Grill: The grill is always available for guest use. Let us know and we will ensure that it is clean and provide the necessary gas cylinder.
Rancho area: The sheltered deck area on the hill is used as part of our chocolate tours. Anytime there are no tours, guests are free to make use of the space with its stunning ocean view.
Property: Please feel free to hike the property and walk to our waterfall. Please use caution and stay on the road/paths. The road/paths may be slippery/muddy when wet or may have loose rocks when dry. Where handrails exist, please use them.
Deck and path handrails: For your safety, please do not stand on, sit on, or lean against handrails.
Sofa Sleeper: When using the sofa sleeper, use care not to force the mechanism or catch the bed sheets in it when closing the bed. If you need assistance, please let us know.
Smoking: Smoking is allowed on the outside decks only and not in the living quarters.
Fans: In addition to the ceiling fans, standing fans have been placed in the bedrooms for your comfort. They should have an extension cord attached to allow the fan to be moved around to properly position them to your comfort level.
Bug management: Bugs are attracted to lights. Wherever possible, we have utilized bug lights and low lighting such as the rope lighting on the deck area to deter the attraction. When not in a room, turning out lights will also help.
Energy conservation: Please help us conserve resources by turning off any lights/fans when you leave a room and/or leave for the day.
Water: The Mango Walk water source comes from a mountain spring and passes through 3 filters. In addition, there is a small filter on the faucet for extra filtering for drinking water. The water is supplied using an electric pump. So, you may hear the pump kicking on and off during the day and night.
Noise: It is our desire that guests feel fully free to enjoy themselves at all times. We only ask that you consider the hour and our neighbors. Fun, laughter, and music are totally acceptable within reason, but drunken fighting and screaming is not allowed and may be cause for early dismissal.
Cleaning: Light cleaning is provided once per week, depending on the length of your stay. Should you desire additional cleaning services, just let us know. Depending on the level of cleaning desired, additional fees may apply.
Additional Services include:
Ground Transportation Arrangements: We are happy to arrange ground transportation from the San Jose Airport to the town of Puerto Viejo or directly to the Mango Walk property. Just let us know if you’d like assistance with ground transportation.
