Araciaba was in contact with me throughout my entire booking and ensured I had all the information. He even sent me a breakdown of taxis from the airport and suggested the best way to get to him. He was always quick to reply and gave me a warm welcome when I arrived.
The place is cosy and clean, with everything you need in arms reach. The beds were regularly cleaned and made during my stay as was the room. I never spotted anything dirty in the whole house, from the bedroom to bathroom to living space. On top of that, Araciaba never closed off any rooms in the house, meaning he and his family would be around with you and not tucked away in their own living quarters.
I don't speak Portuguese but Araciaba understood my English well. He tried his hardest to chat with me, give me advice and explain things in English and whenever it wasn't possible he would use the live (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) translate app.
The house is perfect for tourists because it's across the road from a fine Italian restaurant, 3-4 mins from the local supermarket, and 6-7 mins walk to the Cosme Vehlo tram stop which takes you straight up to Christ the Redeemer. Also, the buses run past the front of the house and take you straight to Copacabana beach.
Araciaba knew the city so well and sHoward me where everything was; from the barber shop to the laundrette, the other sides of the city like Barra, and where the great nightlife resides.
On my last night Araciaba took me and other guests to a great little samba spot in Lapa (a short walk from the famous stairs) where we enjoyed authentic samba music, dancing, drinks and more. I've used Airbnb a few times now and this has to be one of the best places I've stayed.
