"What a lovely find. We have stayed in a number of places over the years and this is, easily, one of the best."
Tranquil, by a river, loads of books, warm and cosy, a great walking area.
This is a super house, comfortably furnished, two sitting rooms, open fires, well stocked library, top quality cook-ware and with all modern amenities. The quiet traditional stone building dates from 1745 and is close to villages. There is direct access onto the surrounding hills. The biking is excellent, the landscape astonishingly unspoiled. Situated in a biosphere reserve and dark sky park: red squirrels, otters and much bird life along the river banks can be seen. Maps, guides are provided.

What a lovely find. We have stayed in a number of places over the years and this is, easily, one of the best. Nothing could be faulted. A lovely cottage in lovely grounds. Well stocked and clean, it was even lovelier than it looks on the website. It is isolated so ideal for a calm and tranquil long weekend which is what we were looking for. Great walking and mountain biking opportunities are nearby and the children loved playing on their "private beach" at the back of the cottage. We are already discussing when we can return. I cannot recommend this cottage highly enough.
You should expect to bring a car, or rent one from platform 2 at the nearby railway station at Dumfries. You can collect all groceries from the Co-op in nearby Thornhill, open until 8pm. There is internet, free landline calls, DVD player & screen but no television. Call ahead to arrange fishing with a Ghillie on the River Nith
- The same property including the annexe bedroom and bathroom (comfortably accommodates a further 2 adults) is also available
Kathleen, the housekeeper, is always available to answer to any questions, and the house has a full hand-book with information on local restaurants, activities, attractions and tips on enjoying the house and area.
